I use both. All 4 are chipped and they also have the breakaway collars. Too many people here don't bother to scan for chips.

I think it was Ela that mentioned the 'owned' look of a cat with a collar can be a double edged sword as people assume its got an owner.

Would really reccomend the person whos voted neither to get some form of ID on their kitty  ;D

Blip is chipped but doesn't wear a collar.  I hadn't heard of safety collars when she arrived with us but it is one of those difficult decisions, isn't it?

I've only selected microchip on this, as Max does not wear his collar any more, he figured a way of taking it off, so it stays off now.

Saying that though, Max is a strictly indoor only boy, so the chip is just in case he ever did manage to escape, especially being  FIV (which I have also logged on the chip info) so somebody knows he is 'owned'.

I have to admit that I used to have both a collar and a microchip, but I've given up on the collars now. Once we got Skye, Riley and her quickly got into the habit of "accidentally" removing each other's collars while playing, then deftly bating them under a convenient bit of heavy furniture.....to this day we can't find Riley's last collar, missing in action some 6 months ago.....
However, as they are indoor cats I'm not too worried about collars. I know I could put some on them if I needed to (eg if we were taking them with us n holiday, or moving house etc) as a "just in case" measure, but it seems a bit pointless for indoor fluffies. If I ever had outdoor cats I would use both, but it would be a breakaway collar.

Maybe but even so if something happened to one of my kitties in the vicinity I would want to know ASAP and I stand the best chance of that by having my contact details available to whoever finds them, rather than having to wait for the cat to be taken somewhere to be scanned.

Yes I know and when I was getting Ted chipped the vet scanned him and said is this your cat as he was already scanned. The stupid vet had forgot to reset the scanner  :evillaugh:

The only one I need to put a collar on is Harry and he can take it off himself so no point really  :rofl:

The microchip would always be 100% effective if more people knew to get the cat scanned.

I have to trust a microchip cos I dont like collars and Misa wont tollerate one and Sasa cant be touched. The birman boys dont leave the garden anymore and wouldnt like to see them in collars.

All 4 microchipped butNoni also has a break away collar as she got it from her "other mommy" JS  :)

I am undecided about collars due to bad experience with so called elasticated safety collar about 25 years ago (luckily I was there to sort it out) I realise breakaway ones are safer but still ......  Noni's collar doesn't bother her at all (not much does  :Luv:) and she's so cute and friendly I find it a comfort to stop anyone thinking she hasn't got a home and "rescuing" her  :scared:

When Billy came to us I agreed with the rescue not to make him wear a collar and tbh can't see me ever being able to get one on him anyway and live to tell the tale :rofl:. I wouldn't dream of making Tom wear one at his age so I suppose the only one I might consider would be Freddie  :-:

Molly is only chipped at the moment, as I had issues getting her collar to hold her ID tag (I dont see the point in a collar without a tag, although i use the 49p barrel ones from Wilkinsons so they cant' easily get hold of my no).
