Nowadays some chips (iDENTICHIPS) have microscopic pores and the body weaves its ‘bits’ in and out so the chip can become attached to one place.

Quote
I have found chips that have moved right down the front shoulder.

I think that could sometimes happen perhaps if a cat suddenly moves quickly and the chip may have been placed wrongly initially.

I think the longest it has ever taken me to find one which was eventually found in a really awkward place was  is perhaps 30 seconds, although it seems like 10 mins.

They can DEFF move !

When i worked in the cattery we had to scan the cats that were chipped to store their numbers. I have found chips that have moved right down the front shoulder.
On a number of occasions it took me 10mins to find a chip.

So YOU are right  :evillaugh:

Having been on the chipping course ......

no, its a combination of the fact that the newer ones have a rough surface so the body scabs around and holds it in place..

and where they are implanted, They are supposed to be implanted in the moddle of the shoulder blades but if for whatever reason the implant goes to one side then there is a gravity effect that can draw the chip down.

So if kitty is implanted correctly then sleeps a lot

Would recommend checkng every so often and if it has move re chipping - cos if your vet has problems finding it so will anyone else.

Z's has moved slightly towards one shoulder blade...apparently the newer gen ones have a special coaing at one end that stops migration......I remember the vet trying to find it after implantation only to realise it was still in the gun  :shocked:got it in the second time though!

Shadow's was somewhere near his left armpit last time it was checked. The definitely move if that is the nature of the beast.... Sometimes they stay put, but sometimes they move, so I guess, technically, you are both right, or both wrong ...

Does this mean I can come and dognap? :shify: :shify:

Afraid not! She got re-chipped!!

You can apparently feel the chip under the skin. I've tried but I can't find it.

lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

oh Den your no help,I want you to say IT MOVES :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

:evillaugh: Sorry!! I think the older ones were much more prone to migrating. But most *I think* have a groove or something in them which the body sort of grows into and keeps them attached in one place. But they can still migrate!!

The vet did explain it to me when Molly's vanished  :-:

It depends on the chip and who put it in. They can migrate, they can also disappear totally  :-: Or they can stay put.

Now we know when they first get microchipped it goes at the back of the neck.  Now I was told that it doesnt stay there,it moves about but my friend is insisting it stays in the exact place it gets put in on the day.

Whos right? :evillaugh: :boxer:
