Ging is twitching his head and flicking his ears

Just caught up with this, Gwen.  I am with you and Den: you would think intuitively that it would be something in the ear itself, wouldnt you?  Anyway, whatever it is, fingers crossed for a speedy resolution.

I think you need to wqait for the results and see what she recommends then take it from there.

I havent heard of kidney probs being related to high blood pressure before although I know that Kocka had both.

The bp meds were so small and she had to have a quarter of a tab, my vet in London used to break them up for me but not here, oh nooooooo. She used to have them crushed in ad diet.

Lets hope the results are good but I agree, that its aweful when you have somethink irrating in your ear.

Personally I'd say it was the cysts too. You know how annoying it is yourself if you have something irritating your ear like a hair. Mig was clearly bugged out with the wax in his ears, and he was fiddling with the one that had the most wax in it too!!

Wait for the results, then maybe if they come  back clear see if you can get a second opinion. Poor Ging.

I have no idea how they find out but the vet said it could be a sign of high blood pressure from hyperthyroidism.  I thaught it was so weird but thats what she said

We'll know more when we get the blood results tomorrow or monday.  Personally I think its more the cysts inside the ear more than what she thinks but hey what do I know lol

how do they find out Gwen?  Star twitches quite a lot and when I've mentioned it to the vet they laugh it off, she has changable moods and I do wonder if there is something underlying causing that

We're back from the vets.

Well its definately not ear mites or bad ears or dirty ears.

He does have 2 little cysts inside the ear but the vet isnt too concerned about them just yet,she said to keep an eye on them and if they are still a problem then something will need to be done but obviously she doesnt want to operate because of his age.

Now she thinks all this ear twitching could be a sign of hyperthyroidism.  I dont quite understand how it can be but she thinks its linked to high blood pressure/hyperthyroidism which is linked to his kidneys.  Shes taken bloods for us to see just whats going on,I am keeping positive though,he's not in any pain or anything and is eating/drinking/playing if he's doing all this then in my book his life is still good.  I'm just not sure about stuffing him full of pills,the vet said something about a steroid base tablet but I'm really not sure as Grwndis on tablets and I have seen him change so much for being an active cat to a fat overweight lazy cat and I dont want that to happen to Ging. 

Obviously I would be greatful for any purrs advice and information and will get back to you as soon as the results are back

Good luck at the vets-beavis strated ear=twitching this morning so i will have to investigate his ears at lunchtime - we was out the catflap before I got a good look earlier!

We're back and still no closer to finding out whats wrong as the vet had an emergency call to a farm,apprently somebody has something wrong with his sheep so theres a couple of vets up there investigating.  Its annoying but they couldn't help it,they said if he's wore or vomiting/diarrhea or anything to call emergency vets and it will be free otherwise to call tomorrow

Now today was an easy task to get him in the box,tomorrow will be a different matter I think

Miggles was flicking and twitching and scratching his ears last year. I took him to the vet and they thought it could be mites so they gave me something for that, also noticed he had a lot of wax (which was odd as his ears are normally spotless). Vet gave me some drops for his ears £25 they cost  a few days of drops and he was back to normal  Still don't know what caused the wax build-up.

Isnt wax to protect the ear canal....maybe trying to self heal the mites! 

That had crossed our minds. Which is why he was treated for the mites. Then we couldn't decide whether it was possible mites or the bunged up ears which was annoying him  There was no sign of mites and since his ears are huuuge I would have thought they would be noticeable. His left ear was worse than his right.

I hope it's something simple too. When Max arrived he had ear mites, but I could see them moving about in his ears (mind you he had ears like sat dishes). I hope it's that as the spray sorts it out asap. they look like little black dots. Yuk.

To be on the safe side the vet has just called back and said she'll squeeze him in if I get him there for 5.30

It might be ear mites ... or he might have a hair stick stuck in his ear.  Foxy was walking round last week with one ear down and she kept rubbing it ... I had a look and could see a couple of hairs stuck in her ear that were obviously irritating her.  Thankfully Foxy is very laid back and allowed me to pull the hairs out with tweezers (they were all gunky with ear wax so I don't think she would have been able to shift them herself).  Have a good look at his ears to make sure he isn't full of hair ... as it is moulting season!

He seems to be flicking his ears a lot,my first thaught was ear mites would you guys agree?

He's fine otherwise,eating,drinking,having his mad 5 minutes after food.  He did have an appointment for 3.20 today but I have had to cancel it due to the cheropadist coming to see my nans feet and they didnt have a later appointment so I'll try and get him in tomorrow if its not better.  btw I have tried smelling inside his ears(somebody recomended I should do this) but couldnt smell anything nasty but his ears do look a bit dirty bu then they always have

Obviously with him being 18 I dont want to take any risks with him.
