This is one of the advantages of being CP, I think you all get far better deals at your vets than we do.
The chip course cost us £35 odd so another advantage of belonging to an umbrella organisation.
and of course if we get insurance that costs us as well.

and you get cp vans........

free neutering.............

oh my! who ever would want to be an independant rescue?

Re chips. We buy in bulk and then distribute out to our three vets, so our chipping costs are much, much reduced. I then go online and register them...

The vets dont charge us for chipping so we were not really saving anything doing it ourselves. More often then not its done when they are neutered... or when handed into us we get them done as most of our cats that are taken in their first point of call is the vets...

I don't think you would be able to charge. All you could do is ask for a donation,  of course donations get Gift aid if the donor is a tax payer and agrees. In cases like yours we don't chip until the cat has a new owner. Of course if an owner turned up before that time then CP should not chip as CP insurance only covers CP cats.

Don't you chip your own cats?

I am sure you know CP will arrange for reps from all branches to have chip training free of charge, then chips can be purchased from iDENTICHIP very cheap. We have 5 that chip.

Reading your post again I think you may already chip yourselves.

WE don't have much success either, even in cats that are still very friendly. i hope you can find her owner. I can't understand people not reporting them.

Actually we have had the case when a cat is advertised and owner found but they didnt leave a donation!  If we treat a cat and the owner if found a few weeks later we have give them the bill. We only treat suspected owned cats if they are poorly, this one was. It was also full tom.. and cost us an arm and leg in vets bills, we got  him neutered and then found the owner 2 days after the 14 days were up (it was a weekend).. We then sent them the bill. we actualy had a cat that had still had scar marks from being spayed, but despite ringing all vets and rescues we didnt find an owner...

Actually we dont have a great success with found cats, you would think that people would contact vets wouldnt you, but they dont?

If the owners don't come forward in the period you have to legally hold her for before rehoming, then they could reasonably expect to find her in the same condition she left them. If you have her chipped after that, then it would not be unreasonable to give them the bill.

If the owners come forward with any luck they will give you a donation anyway!

BTW, Jill and I went on a microchipping course yesterday - Me as an observer (had to close my eyes when the chipping was done!). Well worth it if you have someone who can do those sort of things! Hopefully we will be offering a local chipping service when our (Jills) stuff arrives in a couple of weeks.

I hope you can find an owner, but I have taken in quite a few strays that I would have thought had an owner (one turned up still with scar and bald patch from spaying), and have never reunited one yet. I contact our RSPCA as they have a national database, might be worth a go.

We have a young LH female in our care that is obv someones pet. She isnt chipped, no id or collar. Just doing some advertising for her, but i want to say "If this cat is reunited with owners she will be chipped and the vet will charge for this". Or something like that.. Not exact wording. Does any Cp branch do this when we have a cat in their care that we keep for 14 days incase an owner comes forward?

I would like to charge people an amount (the vets will charge aroune 15.00 to chip) before handing over, or get her chipped anyhow and then send them the bill.

Seems abit harsh but if she was chipped she would of been reunited by now, but as it is now going into a pen that has waiting list of two urgent cases to come in. But she cannot stay at the vets for 14 days can she?

She is spayed (or hanst had kittens at least). Long haired dark brown colour (looks black but is brown)
