Wonderful - it is amazing how well they take to it - Ginger adored his raw meat, despite having no teeth, and Molly loves it, as do Rolo and Moses - Zi wont entertain it, but she is'nt keen on cooked meat either. They just dont get it very often sadly.
Please spay your cat

Update!  Jaffa just loves his chicken wings  ;D  I give them to him whole and he generally leaves a small piece of bone about an inch long from the biggest piece of the wing, but everything else gets gobbled up  ;D  Had a bit of a break through with Mosi tonight.   He won't entertain the idea of wings yet, but I gave him some chunks of raw chicken and he was eating quite large pieces (about 1.5 ins x 1 ins) which is massive compared to the size he used to eat.  He does have a small jaw and used to refuse to eat anything that was bigger than about half an inch square.  But I gave him some bigger pieces tonight and he was happy to rip them apart with his teeth!  It just goes to show that it's worth persisting with something  ;D  I still hope to get him eating bones eventually, but if not I'll be happy if he will eat pieces of meat big enough to require chewing.

I know!  I'm so impressed with Jaffa.  He's gone 10 years without raw meat or anything remotely resembling a chicken wing (dry food that he swallowed whole and some wet food, and maybe the occasional bit of raw mince) but he's really taken to raw meat and bones like he's been eating them all his life!

Update:  Jaffa isn't getting these quite as often as he'd like 'cos I keep forgetting to take them out of the freezer, but I gave him one tonight and for the first time I didn't break it into pieces, but gave him the whole thing in one go.  He munched the lot and has only left a very small piece of bone  ;D

Hey, thats excellent! I still have to break mine up into three for most of my lot (not enough teeth left!) although Harry and George can manage a whole one!

For those cats who dont know what to do with their 100% natural chicken wings, offer them small pieces of chicken meat first and work your way up to big bits that need chewing and then wings

I didn't get on that well with the wings I'm afraid Amber showed a vague interest and then batted it a bit and the others ignored it completely will try again when I remember to get more

I thought the chicken wings were ok because the bones werent quite so hard and had alot of cartilage in them also i didnt think they had that sharp spear of bone that the leg has ?
I'd just stick to wings or chicks personally if anyone was thinking of trying it...now ok this has spurred me on i WILL buy mine some and stop being a chicken ... ha ha get it  :evillaugh:  ok i'll go to bed  :-[   :evillaugh:

LOL!

All ok if they're raw Lynn. I give mine legs and drummers too.

Well given them another one tonight :) Polo just stared at his bit, Marco made a big song and dance about his growling and such but then only ate a tiny bit, then nicked Polos piece, (for no reason but to move it about) but Stig whopped his back no problem, I'm thinking it could be down to the start thay have all had

I've just given them to my boys for the first time Polo wasn't impressed just threw it about abit but Marco and Stig ate there bits (cut the wing into 3 pcs) no problem but I was just wondering how ofter can I give them to them :)

I usually give mine wings 2-3 times a week, but you could do more often I'm sure, I don't know how often others give theirs wings. The only thing is too much bone can make them constipated!

just caught up with this I did'nt know you could give cats raw whole chicken wings I thought the bones were dangerous, I realize I am probably totally thick when it comes to chicken wings so please excuse me, so I take it its ok to give whole raw wings to my cats?

It's fine as long as they're raw.  Never give cooked bones to cats.  Raw bones are great for cleaning the teeth.  It's how they'd keep their teeth clean in the wild.

He's really taking to chicken wings!  Yesterday I got one out, cut it into 3 at the joints and then cut the smallest piece into 2 and gave them to him.  He crunched the pieces up really quickly.  Then I gave him the mid section whole and he ate it all except for a slither of bone.  Today I've given him the largest section and he's eaten it all except a small piece of bone.  Much quicker than the last one too.  I think he likes his chicken wings!

Aww great pics! :Luv: Poor Billy Whizz
I know what you mean about being proud of them when they tuck in ;D Riley did well with his first one (had about 1/2 of it), but the real star was little Skye! We gave them each a whole one (after several failed attempts to cut them up - will go to butcher next time!), and Skye happily demolished 2/3 of hers, alternately growling and purring
Will have to take pics next time :evillaugh:

Well chicken wings for 1st time today and mixed success.

Freddie only has two teeth so a bit pointless counting him in.  Tom took it no problem and had a good chew but Billy Whiz ran and hid behind the settee  :-:

Just fab Suzanne  :Luv:

Some of the benglies just adore chicken wings, particularly Kaiser and Lubo.  Kaiser performs some strange ceremonial dance with his before tucking in
The twins (Roxy and Rainbow) have a passion for raw lambs mince but that is def a treat to be eaten in very small quantities only!

I've just cut the smallest third of another one into 3 pieces and he's had no problem whatsoever crunching those up!

Clever boy! - it IS funny to hear them growling when they've got something like that isnt it?   ;D

« Reply #1 on: November 23, 2007, 22:17:35 PM »
Well I finally bought some chicken wings.  They're bigger than I thought/remembered! (don't eat chicken wings often).  Suppose I should have given Jaffa a small piece to start off with but I broke it into 3 at the joins and gave him the biggest bit.  And what a little trooper he is!  He's spent the last hour gnawing away at it and there's not a lot left of it now.  Probably sounds daft but I'm proud of my little carnivore!  He's been an indoor cat for 10 years and has only had small pieces of raw meat in the past year or so.  Chicken wings are very different to processed cat food!  He's really taken to it though (Mosi can only manage tiny pieces of raw meat).  Here he is with his chicken wing!  He took it off to his corner so that no-one could take it off him.  He growled for the first 15 minutes before he realised that no-one was actually bothering him.
