I dont know as yet gillian, we've been trying to get our head around actual house plans and changes we've needed to make so not too much thoughts on landscaping as yet,  I would be doubtful though because ideally the run would have to be fairly close to the house (or else it would mean putting them in and out of cat baskets to take them further away from house which isnt very practical several times per day)  and there wont be any possiblity really of having plantings around the house, you see when you build a house nowadays you MUST gear it up for disability access (a non negotiable planning regulations)  this means at considerable cost to us one side of the house has to have a massive very long cement ramp which will basically lead from front of house round to the back french doors which now even has to have "flat rest areas after each 5m sloped bit   :tired:   then out the front of the house we have to have a paved walk way from the drive over to the start of the ramp, this is so a wheelchair user can get out of car on drive and use their chair over to the ramp.
Then on other gable wall we have tarred driveway and at the back where the french doors are is the patio which will be in decorative slabbing etc & will be secured off for the dogs to pop in and out.
Abit of a pain in the rear end really all this disabled nonsense (wouldnt be so bad if i actually knew a wheelchair user who might come and visit :tired: )

Then down the garden it will be all lawn for the kids obviously and their large garden play equipment, all the plants and tree's etc which again is stipulated we must have will hopefully be around the perimeters of garden.

That said my new run i've just ordered will come with me and i have been wondering about chances of getting it extended at that point and my only other options i think would be to have plant pots etc, I would however have loved to put a tree in the ground but may have to comprimise by putting in tree trunk etc.  The only place i can think my run can go would be the patio area and i had thought since we will have a wall at the back and probably gates at the side and M's workshop at another side if we might be able to catproof that area but then having them running around with the dogs isnt a good idea, the dogs are fine but something running outside that is furry i wouldnt be happy to trust.  Plus i still couldnt have planted bushes & plants out there coz the dogs would pee over them all the time and they would just die.  In an ideal world i'd have liked a similar setup as they originally had here  :(

ta, i cant take too much credit though as all that plants n stuff were already round there, we just put up the run around it  :)  There was more bushes & tree's you couldnt see in that pic, a vole family used to have burrows under it, shame for the poor wee things but the cats were delighted  :tired:
Birds having bird brains used to think it was far better to be inside the run rather than the whole of the free world on the outside..they took their fate in their own wings so to speak.

Wow! That's amazing!

My cat doesn't really go out and we're in a quiet are anyway, but it's amazing what you can do to create a stimulating environment for them - well done you!!!

I've been sorting stuff out in loft for moving house and came across this old pic, this was the fraser and sebastians original run which had to be taken down about a year or so ago as it became old and delapitated and has been replaced by a smaller more boring run (to look tidy and clean for selling the house)

As theres quite a few folk been on about cat proofing gardens/getting a cat run etc lately i thought i'd post this. As you can see the cats were in their element, frequently caught voles/mice and birds and even sebastian who is the escape master and doesnt like being hemmed in (was a stray originally) was perfectly happy out there  :Luv:  I hope long term when we are at our final house in 11 months to make their future run more interesting with vegetation etc.

ps its maybe abit blurry as its a photo of a still photo.
