Its because the whole point of these diets is to increase urine production. Water is the key in any form.

The ph it creates isnt that different to normal pee, the main stone is struvite anyway so i assume foods such as go cat are more alkali than acidic thus creating the problem.

Taz does well with mainly wet as FIC treatment, tastes nicer too :drool;

There has been Purina diet foods available in the US for a while, and VetUK stock more than the vet does, but not sure I have seen this one yet. I do agree with Gillian about the one diet does all bit though, I wouldnt trust it. Both Hills and RC do different diets for the two stones

Feline Urinary UR ST/OX provides nutritional support for the management of three conditions most frequently associated with FLUTD - dissolve struvite crystals, reduce the recurrence of both struvite and calcium oxalate uroliths and help treat feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC)

See, this is what I can never understand about these so called FLUTD foods - how can one diet treat both struvite and oxalate crystals/stones, when one forms in alkaline urine and the other forms in an acidic urine? If you want to dissolve struvite the diet needs to make the urine acidic - but, too acidic and oxalate can form - doesnt make sense!

In the FAB cat care mag theres a small section on this, i cant find much out about it as it requires me to log in as a vet surgeon  :rofl:

Food for FLUTD suffers
A new cat food has been launched by Purina to support veterinary treatment of FLUTD, a common and complex syndrome.
