My considerations are what the cats would enjoy coupled with what I can actually fit in my home, we have a lot of unused hallway but anything I put there would have to be fairly thin so as not to get in the way, this is why I liked the wall scratcher and as it is quite large and high I thought that cats would enjoy using it more than a less tall and far thinner scratch post.

Just put scratching posts in your search engine, there are loads of sites, although many are a bit ugly in my opinion. However, I am sure you will know that it was what is in the little ones interest that really counts not necessarily what may be pleasing to our eyes.

To be honest with you over the years we have purchased some climbers that have been very expensive yet have still been unstable. Some of them have had a very solid base yet still toppled over when cats have had a mad 1/2 hour.

The ones shown are in my opinion OK but there are loads available already that are excellent and modern.

I do have concerns about the catlivinclimb, although it looks like it can be moved from door to door so should not be to much of a problem, unless of course you want to use all your doors regularly and keep disturbing the cats. I am not happy with the fact that to get down especially from the top and cats are on all levels it either has to get down but disturbing a cat on the lower step or jump down and I have known many cases where cats have broke a leg from jumping down from that height or even less. The taller ones I know about usually have a way down for cats where they would not need to disturb cats on a lower level.

Haha! Michelle and I wondered that the other day! Don't know the answer yet and I'm sure they've thought of that, but we had this image of pushing a door to walk into a room and hearing cat screams as they went flying off the scratcher on the other side!

Have to admit, the only thing I'm dubious about is the price, but there's going to be very little we can do about that, especially when the exchange rate returns to somewhere near normal. That will limit the number of people interested, understandably, but it does appear from what you're all saying that, in general, you love the products themselves...

Barney I am not convinced it is attached to the door, to me it looks as if it is using the lower height of the door way as an anchor point, not the door itself. In which case, unless you never opened the door it would be a major irritant, not the daintiest of door screens. But then, the picture is too small for me to get a clear idea of what is shown ...

C. Smokey I have one from Albany pets and it was 37 quid (without postage though) but yeah they sell for 69.99.

Check them out they dont get up to the selling price.

I think I'd have either of the first two. I don't mind great big scratching posts and wanted to get a multi-activity monstrosity this time round but OH wasn't impressed with the idea. He likes my cats but likes his house to look clean and stylish aswell. Those two items would be a great compromise.

I ended up buying the Ancol Fat Boy this time at £25 but the ones I wanted were those huge ones from AlbanyPets (or something like that) on eBay which go up to £70ish.

Having indoor cats, I'm always thinking they need places to entertain themselves.

I'd be interested in the one for the back of the door provided that the platforms were large enough for my cats and that it would actually take their weight if there were several on it at once.

I've seen the wall scratcher and the door climber already and was hoping to be able to get hold of both. The guy who sells the door scratcher told me he is in the process of getting a UK distributer for it though so you may be too late on that one.

I like the idea of the staircase that mounts on the door ... I find a lot of the problem with the cat trees you can already buy is that they take up so much floor space, so something door mounted would be great. I'm not sure I'd pay up to £150 though - our existing biggest cat tree cost £70 and has a lot more to it than any of these seem to have ...

The cat-living tower also seems to need to be supported at both ends, and, being relatively short (by room scale standards) seems to require a doorway as the ideal location. Personally I don't have a spare doorway, and would be loathe to spend that sort of money to get a tower of such a simple design, sorry Paul, probably not what you want to hear, but better to hear it now than after investing, I guess ...

I would totally spend that kind of money if it means I don't have to have the naff cat furniture in my house. A lot of the cat furniture in the UK is not particularly cool to look at, and while I know the cats don't care, I would prefer the cat stuff to look good in my apartment. I have my sister sending over some cat scratching pads that you attach to the wall with my parents when they are visiting. They are a wood panel (3 choices of wood, can't remember what), and there are lots of colour options for the scratching insert. I'm getting one for a couple of different rooms and they will be colour coordinated!

I have also just bought a petpod from a sculptor in Devon. It's made from recycled paper, and is a very cool design. My cats couldn't wait to get into it and really like it.

Must be honest I`m not impressed. The modern tower would probably end up on the floor with my lot bouncing all over it and the wall scratcher just isnt my cup of tea, guess I`m a bit old fashioned. The most I have paid for a scratching post was £90, solid wood incorporating 3 beds with good long posts for cats to strop on. Must be honest I try to imagine what things will be like after lots of use and I need to know that they really are good value for money rather than fashionable.

That's exactly what I think. Almost regardless of it being for a cat, it's a real talking point. In terms of strength this one's sturdy enough for you or me to sit on, apparently. And they make a half size one too, with a single 'tunnel'. I had a chat with the manufacturer in the states the other day and he's really keen to explore the UK market, so you never know...

My guys would love the middle one - they love mats and I end up having to keep puttin gmats back as they move when they scratch them, plus the ohter guys would love the upright bit.

My older cat's got a bit phobic about climbers, but would have loved it when younger. You've not seen a sort of higher ramp have you, in America? The ramps I've seen here are to help dogs get in and out of cars so are only chair or car boot height at most. I'm thinking one that could allow him to reach a table top or kitchen surface standard height. I'd pay £100 - 150 for the pleasure he'd get being able to sit in the sun this summer - we only get sun higher up on table tops/kitchens surface in the flat. He can no longer jump that high. (I put a chair for him to reach, but he won't do that; I think they get used to using ramps as they look less threatening than climbers or chairs). Let me know if you see anything like that please.

I do think that if the products are different enough from anything you could buy here then yes I would.

In particular the cat climber (bottom pic) is the one I would be interested in. I need to have something that my cat can climb without danger of falling and damaging her legs again, right now she has to stick to low heights purely because she can't climb high. There was one on the site that sells the scratcher (the 2nd pic) that has a circular type stair case climber? I would prefer that to the totally straight one in the bottom pic. There is more room to manouver where the bigger cat (like mine) might get in a bit of a pickle trying to find her balance whilst skipping back a step? If that makes sense?

Hi there
Prompted by a post the other day about some cool cat scratchers, I'd dearly love some opinions from you guys.

We've been investigating some absolutely fantastic products for cats that are currently only available in the USA, with the intention of trying to agree some deals to introduce them to the UK. They're unlike anything available here at the moment and, I think anyway, are amazing! I'd have them in my house in a shot!

What I'd like to know from you guys, is:
a) are these the sort of things you'd consider buying, and
b) the price would have to be in the region of £100 and £150 - would you still be interested now?!

Any opinions would be of real value, so please reply...
