I did actually look it up before I posted it here too, just in case it really does exist and had a rather dubious content

I've got two that need merkins at the moment. If only I'd thought of that idea 6 months ago...

Well in certain operations they use staples so reckon if they used staples instead of stitches they could attich the ummm patch of fur back.

Of course they could also use the fur they shaved off so it matched and attach it to a backing pad.

I will do the black cat ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you do that tabby,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,imagine how the staff would fight

Well little Gwynnie will be having a midline spay when she goes in for neutering - no nasty shaved patches for her LOL! (well not anywhere obvious anyhow!)

It would have been a challenge though to find a patch suitable for her long fur - I'm thinking Mongolian cushion maybe?  :)

for those of us who, like me, have no idea what neuticals are the following clip explains all ...

http://icommunity.tv/node/344

wonder if it is the dog's self-esteem that receives a boost or the owner's ...  :evillaugh:

Been giving the attachement a bit of thought. Do you reckon a staple gun is a bit harsh?  ;)

As for who donates the fur...um, didn;t really have REAL fur in mind, if I'm honest! haha! But hey, maybe there's a little sideline in cat fur donation! You know, "shave your cat and get £10" kind of thing.

You could always buy some of the speciality knitting wools that are available now to match your cats colour.  This would also solve the problem of multi-coloured ones such as torties.  The air would be able to get through as well.  I'll leave you to sort out how to attach it

another technical challenge would be a) how does air reach the wound to aid healing and b) who donates the fur that you are using? And yes, you do have waaaay too much time on your hands ... lol

No 1: The Cat Merkin
OK, so you take your cat to the vet to be neutered or to have an operation, and when they get home they look like the picture attached. (This is Josie after her spaying op.) They have a big shaved, bald area on their side/tummy/wherever that looks like they've had a run in with a lawnmower.

Now imagine you're the cat. All your feline mates would be p***ing themselves next time you're down the park. They'll be all the jokes about "who cut your hair? Your mum?" and "Who cut your hair? Do you want me to get them for you?" and all that stuff. It's embarrassing. Not to mention the draughts...brrrrrrrrr.... And the worst thing is, it takes 2 months to grow back!

Now, from The Pet Extraordinarium comes...the Cat Merkin. (For anyone who doesn't know what a merkin is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkin. The Cat Merkin is a square of fur that matches your cat's coat that you stick on to cover up the whole bald area. You send a picture of your cat's fur, the rough size you need to cover up and the length of your cat's fur, and we match that to one of our extensive stock of merkin furs. We send you back the closest match to your cat's coat, and all you do is cut it to size and stick it on! GENIUS!  :innocent:

You can tell I've thought about this, can't you? The only thing I haven't covered is how to stick it on...I'm thinking velcro or blue-tack, but still working on that...

haha! Do I have too much time on my hands?!
