According to the people on the diabetic cat forum, I should be feeding my cats solely wet food and caninsulin is too harsh for a cats body. They believe Protamine Zinc Insulin (Bovine insulin) to be more compatible.

It's also more expensive if I can actually mange a vet to prescribe it in the first place!

Thanks Lucy. I was in an utter state this morning, but I've joined a diabetic cat forum and there's a lot of really helpful people that have been dealing with this illness in their cats for years.

LJ has already polished off one of the cans of liquivate, I think I'll need to get more tomorrow. Hope they don't charge a lot, I've got £3 until Wednesday. (If it's more I'll owe it them, he isn't going without.)

it looks like pate in the tin, but can be watered down to make a liquid, or heated.

Is A/D goop too?

The strangest thing happened earlier. My partner went and got the wiggly toy that my youngest cat plays with and put it in front of LJ and started moving it about.....and he played! This might not sound anything to get excited about, but if you knew him, you'd know why I was! He usually sleeps all day. But he spent a good ten minutes playing with my partner.

Very odd!

I would speak to your vet, I am not sure if Liquivite contains the right balance of taurine etc to be fed as an only food for that length of time. A/D is a brilliant food, very few cats turn it down (tom did when his teeth bothered him, then wolfed it after they were done, but think he is hte only one to turn it down), and if I had to feed one of those for that time, it would be A/d - again, can only be bought from vets or VetUK (but you have to bulk buy from VetUK), around £1.10 a tin.

I have never needed to buy it but from what I understand it's a concentrated food for cats that are convalescing and as it's a smooth pate, can be watered down for lapping or even syringe feeding. Probably a/d with water would be enough rather than buying liquivite as well. I'm sure someone with experience can advise. I know Gill fed kocka a/d for a year and he licked it off her finger

A/D? What's that? I probably already know, but just can't get my brain in gear.

LJ has already had nearly a whole tin of the small liquivite since we got back from the vets. I'll continue to give him as much as he wants. It's so odd because he isn't really acting any different to usual now. He was on Thursday, but Friday onwards he was acting fairly normally.

I guess I just have to keep feeding him anything he'll eat until his bloods give a better reading.

The vet scared me by telling me how difficult it was to get a cats readings right after a blip - can anyone reassure me?

I think he could live on liquivite for 3 weeks as it is still a food but with a higher water content than regular food. If he isn't active, I'm sure it would be OK. Mixing with some a/d might help?

To be honest, he's due a dental which isn't helping the situation much. I've been putting it off because he seemed alright with eating, and the idea of him going under anaesthetic made me worried. (He's 11 and I'm paranoid he won't cope well with surgery.) He's currently being fed liquivite as much as he wants.

The sooner his readings are up, the sooner they can sort his teeth. And then his eating will hopefully balance out the situation again. Poor lad.

Officially worried - LJs readings haven't changed from Friday. I can't face anything happening to him. Having a bit of a meltdown and trying not to.

Well, he woke me up this morning by prodding me with his paw which is definitely more in character than he's been for the past couple of days.

I think he's having trouble eating, but unfortunately the vet that I would want to do the dental work is away for three weeks.

I'm not sure what to do if I'm right and it's his teeth - he can't live on liquivite for three weeks, can he?!

LJ hates this powdered liquid food - but he loved liquivite. It's really frustrating....can you buy liquivite from petshops? I'm taking the three sachets of powdered food back on Monday and telling them I want to swap for the equivalent in price!

Google inform me that is 5.072 fl oz, which matches to my measuring jug saying about 5 fl oz. Hope his blood sugar improves!

Little Junkie has been given powdered food for the weekend to try and get his blood sugar back up - but the measurements are in ml....and the only measurements on my jug are fl oz and pints. Can anyone tell me how much 150ml is in either of the other measurements? I want to make his food up ready for tomorrow.
