He is a little poser most of the time. He sort of sits in these lovely positions. I don't know why I am being such a ditherer this time around. Never really worried like this when I first had my Bridge cats. think I have had a lot of losses in 7 years, my mum, dad, almost my daughter, my dog, three cats that I am scared of losing him?

I can't add anything to what Lesley and Desley have said but it is up to you as to whether or not to run the test. As Desley says it doesn't mean a lot on its own but talk over with your vet his reasons for doing the re-test.

Personally speaking the upset tummy could be down to stress, change in diet or he just ate something bad. I understand totally why you are worried and it would be hard not to worry so I won't say 'don't worry!

At the end of the day if you get the same result from a second test it may put your mind at ease that its nothing to be concerned about.

keep us posted on how Charlie gets on and what you decide for the test.

If you feel it is worth re-doing, then do it, but titre levels dont really mean a lot when the cat is fine, it only shows exposure to the Corona Virus, and that is common in cats, it doesn't mean anything will come of it.

He is going in for his first vaccinations on Wed so will discuss it with them then. I think it is more to ease my mind that they are suggesting it, I think they have quickly realised I am a worrier!!!

That's quite normal to do a re-test, just to see if the titer levels have gone up or down, but if he is well in himself I don't necessarily see any reason to have it done, many cats will have a titer level without ever showing any signs of illness.

WHen Charlie was at the vet's on Thursday with his off tummy, the vet said they want to re-test him re the corona virus in four weeks.

That doesnt sound like a worrying titre reading and as others have said just shows exposure to corona, which is very common. When my Gwynnie was ill back in November, she tested positive with a titre reading of 2,500! which is very high - but she's absolutely fine.

I think it was due to me that it was included, I said I wanted him screened for everything as I didn't have any history on him! Vet says he is about one year old

Generally they only do a Corona test when you ask for it or the vet suspects this is causing a problem. With all the cats I've had in, I have only ever had one tested but I knew it would be positive anyway.

I am surprised that that test was included to be honest, normally with Glasgow it is just FIV and FeLV, as unless the cat is showing signs of illness, the FcOV test is pretty useless - it only shows contact iwth the virus, and FIP is a very rare illness (I think the reason we hear about it more is cos of how many of us there are on here - my neighbour had cats for 30 years (including 10 years of rescue work and very high cat numbers) before she dealt with it). IT does seem quite low compared to what other people have posted, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.

I think I am right in that there is no accurate test for FIP.

I think if Charlie had FIP you would know this and even the slowewr version is still pretty fast.

I dont think you should worry about Charlie and he is absolutely fine.

This is the reason I do not think that tests should be done without a reason of some illness showing and being a problem, cos we get all worried about nothing

I suspect if we all had our cats tested for everything we would be very worried bunnies.

Give Charlie a cuddle, he will be fine for years......how old is roughly?

I agree with the others, don't panic and the test is for the corona virus not FIP. As Sarah has mentioned, if we had all our cats tested for the Corona Virus, I think we would all be in for a shock. The levels are pretty low so personally, I wouldn't worry about it

I agree that a result that low is nothing too much to worry about. I think I have read that if it is over 1,260 it can be a cause for concern so your result does seem low compared to that.

I wouldn't go looking into too many things, I did it with Ollie who has gingervitus and I started to drive myself crazy thinking he could have FIV and all sorts. A bit of info is good but too much and you get sick with worry.

Im sure your vet will be able to tell you more.

cats can carry the corona virus for years without showing any symptoms. Also, some can be shedders of the virus and essentially rid their system of it (still leaving behind antibodies) and some can be profuse shedders thereby potentially infecting any cats they come in contact with.

From my own experiences with Corona, FIP etc a count so low is definately not something to immediately panic about. All it is showing is that he has at some time come in contact with the virus. Probably if I tested all of my own cats they too would all show positive FCoV counts. I would say to you to read up on FCoV for informations sake and if you want to touch base at any time I'll be happy to help what little I can based on our own experiences in recent years.

Thanks for that, just read something on the internet which I need to read again I think. I think it stated that the antibodies actually work to make the virus worse? I can't deny I am worried, having just lost Dragan I couldn't bear it if anything was wrong with Charlie.

I'm assuming that the 320 refers to the corona virus titre count of FCoV. A count of 320 is not very high at all and to be honest there are probably a very high incidence of cats out there with a similar count. Personally, I wouldn't be too worried at a count that low but keep an eye on symptoms.

He may stay at that permanently. Just because he has tested FCoV antibody positive does NOT MEAN HE HAS FIP. So don't panic. All it means is he has been exposed to a form of the corona virus which probably 95% of cats have been and if we all tested for it we'd probably all get a real shock.

I know its easier said than done not to panic but if his count was over 1000 then I'd be a bit more concerned.

Vet just phoned with Charlie's Glasgow lab results. Negative for FIV, negative for FELV but a score of 320 on the FIP one which the vet says means he has been in contact with the virus. Vet not concerned but I don't know anything about this virus - should I be worried?
