Charlie's ear mite and infection

Kocka had stronghold for earmites and with only one hand that works fully it was imposssible to get drops into her ears. I managed to get eyedrops nearly everywhere except in her eye but luckily just a little bit would clear her eyes.

I cant imagine trying to any of this to giant Misa   

I think unless you have someone to hold the cat, one needs to be a fully working octapuss

i've never had to put drops in eyes or ears, only give tablets, with Tigger it was ok untill he got the tumour in his mouth, and no way was he going to let me open his mouth! and i did'nt like to force him incase it hurt him so i put them in his food, which he cottened on to in the end! but when we found that it was a tumour and nothing more could be done there were no more tablets for him, as for Meg----well i would hate having to give her tablets!!! there would be spit and hairs flying every were lol.

He's actually very good when I am putting the drops in.  Obviously he doesn't like it but he doesn't fight me either so it's a quick and painless process followed by a cuddle and treat and he soon forgets.  At least he hasn't started avoiding me yet.

Hate doing ears and eyes in cats. I had a cat last year with ear mites, the vet had cleaned the ears, and gave me some medicated stuff, Rolo got STrongholded and just produces lots of wax, so he has to have his ears cleaned every few days, but hates it.

If you have someone to help out on the operation ear spray, that would be ideal, with 4 hands things will be pretty much under control.
When I had to do Oliver Cristiano held him with one hand and the other hand he scratched his head vigorously to calm/distract him then I did the spray with my other hand holding up the ear (it was usually all flattened back at those moments!)

My young Barney who is now 7 months old has always produced a lot of wax, which always seems to stand out in any photo's I take of him. The vet gave him some cleanaural which cleaned the ears up, then this Christmas I noticed reddish spot marks within his ears took him back where the vet looked right into the ears and said he had ear mites. He gave me some other stuff to put in his ears, but this was for 7 days only and it cleared up within that period.
It was a bit of a pain trying to put the drops in with young Barney having none of it, so I just waited till he was a sleep and got him then the only thing i could not understand was why it never infected the other cats as there is lot of close contact between them all. I do however now check his ears every other day as I get paranoid over creepy crawlies. You can actualy see all the muck in ears in this photo thanfully it's now all clear

I also had to give my Oliver ear spray (not for mites or infections just to clean up the build up) every other day for 3 weeks, I was afraid he would hate me for that too but he got over it pretty quick.  Give him some extra dose of treats (like Whiskas Temptations) right after the spray and make peace with him... hope he will feel better soon and make it through the "initiation period"!!

been a while for me too, but i seem to remember there was a week of treatment, then a week of no treatment followed by a week of treatment. The first week gets the ones alive at the time, the next week gives the eggs a chance to hatch but not to mature and the third week spoils there newbies fun so good luck. After the first week of treatment it was 'hunt the cat' whenever I got the bottle out!!

I had two farm kittens that came complete with dirty ears and ear mites  but that was years ago so I can't really remember how long it took to sort out.  I do remember how difficult it was putting drops in though so it must have taken a while.   Everytime I put them in they shook them out, we had ear drops everywhere - on the walls, on the furniture, in my face   I also remember the vet being extremely rough cleaning their ears  - he actually made one bleed.  Sorry I'm no help am I but good luck.
I've no experience of ear infections in cats but I've had plenty myself and it can take as long as 2 weeks on antibiotics to sort completely

None of my previous cats ever had mites or ear infections.  Charlie seems very bothered by his ears and is constantly shaking his head and pawing them.  He has had the Stronghold from the local vet and drops yesterday from his new vet.  He has had the drops in last night and this morning.  Just wondering how long he might be uncomfortable?  I expect he will soon wish he never came here what with vets visits, chop ops and drops in ears.
