Thought it was about time I updated all my old mates from CC on my Fabes.
Fabes lost a lot of weight again in November and since then has been having many many tests - first from the vet and now he is under the care of the Uni of Liverpool Small Animal Hospital.
He basically has extremely high levels of ionised calcium in his blood which now seems to be causing him to go into the early stages of CRF. He also has kidney stones and one of his kidneys is shrinking as the other one is getting bigger.
He has had exploratory ops to search for any tumours (this is main cause of high calcium) but none have been found.
He is now on steroids and hopefully these will help bring those calcium levels down and slow down the CRF.
In himself he is absolutely fine, playing with the other 2 and eating well. So at the moment I'm quite positive but obviously know that he won't be like this all the time.
Anyway - one of the reasons for posting was to update you all but also to stress the importance of asking to be referred to specialists if the vet is hitting a brick wall! Fabes started with this over 2 years ago and I accepted the vets acceptance that it was 'one of those things' and just changed his diet.
Its very expensive but luckily I'm insured and feel confident that he is receiving the best care.
For those of you who can't remember him here he is!
