As I see it, you entered a contract with Axa but YOU forgot to send off the DD instruction. I don't understand why you don't just pay the money you owe them as you seem to be saying you want to continue the insurance cover with Axa in any event.  If you cancel and don't pay, I imagine they will refuse to cover Leo in future.

yes, that is what I was trying to say. They send these letters a) as reminders in case you have genuinely forgotten and b) as a means of bluffing you into sending them money when you have changed your mind. If you never established the direct debit, you do not have a contract with them. If you do not intend to stay with them, then set up a new insurance, then write and cancel with them. If, in the mean time, you have to make a claim then send them their money because their letter makes it clear that they have been assuming liability ... Either way you are fine.

If you're intending to stay with AXA, I would pay it.

If you're intending to go somewhere else, then I don't think you have a binding contract with them as you've not yet paid them any money.

I'd pay it Lisa, if you don't or worse ring up and cancel with a view to starting up next month and Leo needs treatment you're up the creek with no paddle.  There's nothing to stop young, healthy indoor cats needing to see the vet - Riley is evidence of this  :innocent:

nope if you are not planning to stay and you have not made any claims then there is no debt. It is best, however (Axa being a particularly persistent bill sender) to just write to them. If you talk to someone in the call centre they will be so focussed on getting you to change your mind, they will forget to record the cancellation - I know, they did it to me with an investment savings plan that I had with them (still have, just not making contributions any more).

I think I will contact them to see what they say as I do want to stay with them really. I searched for ages comparing them all & Axa seemed to be good. (With a little help from you guys !)

I don't know what to say without really sounding cheeky ! Shall I call them & say I dont want the cover & then call say in a Months time to start again ?

hmm

It's partly bluff. If they have been 'covering' Leo for the period then the amount is due, but if you have not made any claims then they can go  :censored: themselves. If, however, you intend to stay with Axa then yes, you will have to pay the amount due, unless, contacting them, you can negotiate a fresh start.

I signed Leo up for the Axa Insurance to start Nov 1st 07.

Stupid me totally forgot to send back the DD form when they wrote me so I thought that I may have to start all over considering its Jan 08 !

I got in yesterday to find a letter to say as soon as they recieve my debit instruction they will take they amount due of £39.39.

It also says
If this is not suitable, please contact our office to discuss this matter, we look forward to hearing from you within the next 7 days or regrettfully the current policy will be cancelled.

Now, does this mean Leo has been covered by Axa anyway? If I don't contact them in 7 days will they disregard the £39.39 due? I thought as I had forgotton to send the DD form back no insurance cover would of started ?
