Hehe! I know you all just want what's best for the puddies! S'alright, so do I. :) Sewing on safety release clasps or leaving their normal collars on it is! (And saving for posh kittycollar ones throughout next year. ;) )

I've seen the quick release Christmas collars too - but at £4.99 each and knowing full well at least two of my four will "misplace" theirs it's a bit pricey. Just to clarify, if I do decide a collar is too dangerous I wouldn't put it on any of my mob even if I wanted them to be in the Christmas spirit!

Alright, guys call off the firing squad!  :-: I did say I wouldn't use them if I thought they were going to cause harm to my lot - hence they aren't wearing them! Was just considering, and I do have quick release clasps that I could stitch on to them. I am aware that vets bills would be more than the outlay of four collars should anything happen with "non safety" cat collars, and I would never do anything intentionally that would cause harm to any of the animals I share my home with. :)

MM, it's a company called Canac.  :innocent:

The vet bill for Rosey a stray we rescued with a severe collar injury was over £600, the pain and distress caused to her unthinkable. When Buster came home minus his collar I felt relieved that it was working correctly and that he hadnt been trapped by it.
We use Kittycollars and details are put onto the fabric of these totally safe collars,it has been known for a kind finder to return the collar.

Whos the manufacturer? Cos id like to send an email to them  >:(
Did you ever see the pics teresa posted of the cat she had in with a collar injury? If one of yours got out wearing one and got lost the same thing could happen.

Would cost more in vet bills if you found your cat with a horrible injury.
I dont think its worth the risk just so the cats can look christmassy.  :shy:

Nope, the collar wasn't still fastened - it was entirely undone. There is no actual "spike" for the buckle it's just a plastic piece.

Thanks for answering.  :) Will continue to try and find a picture after I've cooked tea (we're all getting chicken tonight!) - it's probably easier than trying to describe them.

Oh, and they are definately cat collars. :)

Unless it specifically states it has a safety clasp and is for cats then no I wouldn't use it.  There are lots of places selling these 'fashion' collars that are in fact dog collars.

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk.

Not worth it, if they dont have a safety feature they are not cat collars but dog. You probably found it under the bed before because the cat was fortunate enough to have slipped it over its head.
Iv seen christmassy cat collars with quick release feature  ;D

Do your cats go outside?

What makes the buckle slide and how easily does this happen?

I think if the answer to the first is yes then unless the answer to the second is that if the collar was caught it will just come off, then no they are too dangerous.

All anti-collar people in general should probably not bother reading the rest!

Basically, before I heard about safety release collars my cats had always worn collars anyway. (I would like to put that now on a day to day basis they wear the safety release collars.)They even have Christmas collars - which is what I need the opinion on. The collars don't have elastic, but they do have a slidey buckle, and I know cats are capable of removing them as I've found one under the bed before without a cat in it! Do you think it's risky to use them? I've tried to find a picture of them but can't!
