Sid (now at the Bridge) brought in a mouse and lost it!  We could find the droppings  but no mouse.  Until one evening we were watching TV when the mouse strolled - and I mean strolled)  across the room, sat down by the TV and washed his whiskers.  Sid and Benny who were by me on the sofa just sat and Watched him.  He was finally evicted 2 days later when he fell in my mop bucket and couldn't get out.

aww bless, poor thing! Who do you think was more surprised, Hobbes or the mouse? :evillaugh: We had a cat that lived across from us when I was little, and it used to come visit and play with my rabbit - they loved each other :wow: Sadly, that bunny died of old age, so we got another. Pepsi the cat of course came over to play, as usual, and ended up terrifying the new bunny into having a fatal stoke :( It was so sad for the rabbit, but I felt sorry for Pepsi, too - he just couldn't understand where his old playmate had gone, and why this new bunny wouldn't play with him (and, a few moments later, why it wouldn't get up and chase him back, like Chester used to).

Well many of you who read the other chatting threads will know that I have suicidal mice who like to come into my house despite there being two resident felines here. Dylan of course is absolutely clueless and wouldn't recognise a mouse if it ran past his nose (bless him) but Hobbes is another matter and a few days ago my latest resident mouse came to a sad end I'm afraid. Got up in the morning to find a present on my rug in front of the fire - said mousey lying peacefully on the rug, no blood so I think Hobbes had been playing with him rather too much and the poor thing died of shock  :innocent:

I have to admit that the greys are very cute, and I certainly don't wish them harm per sae - it just saddens me to be reminded of all the reds that have been starved or killed because of the arrival of the greys :( As if the natural flora and fauna of the uk isn't under enough pressure, we have to introduce "alien" species that wipe out the indigenous wildlife. :tired:

Gill, that's cos they are being killed off by the greys who are too competetive for habitat and food, and outbreed them.

Where my folks stay, there are no greys - yet. Just the sweet lil reds, and they are so much more acrobatic and fast, the local kitties haven't a chance, and they seem to know it!

Frogs - oh several of mine have dallied with frogs - its the screaming sound they make when cornered I can't stand

I've heard frogs shriek, and it's awful. Baby rabbits scream something terrible, too - Ash caught one on the lawn one night, and it was horrible.
I have to admit, I don't enjoy the idea of them killing things, but it's natural, and I can't help admiring their grace and skill. There's something mildly hypnotic about a hunting cat - wildlife on one eat your heart out!

so long as they are grey squirrels I wouldn't be too concerned. Also, as long as the cat kills them with dispatch.

Slow worms are lovely!  :Luv: they live in my compost heap.

My Joe caught a blackbird  :( - as it flew out from some shrubs - sad, that it was a blackbird, but must admit to thinking how clever to have caught it in flight - I saw him literally leap in the air with outstretched paw!

Frogs - oh several of mine have dallied with frogs - its the screaming sound they make when cornered I can't stand

our old boy Ash was a useless hunter until mum moved out of the town into the country, and he them became scourge of anything that moved! :scared: He used to bring home everything, from voles, birds and mice to adult rabbits and phesant! It was particularly shocking because he was a tiny cat - most of the adult rabbits he dragged in were bigger than he was!
The worst was he used to just eat the heads, so there would be rows of little decapitated bodies on the doorstep or in the kitchen each day
He could never handle frogs, though - he went for one on the front lawn once, spat it out in disgust (tongue out, shaking head), batted at it, and then ran away when it hopped towards him
He never mastered squirrels, either, though they would delight in taunting him

One of our Burmese, Jade, who couldn't catch birds for toffee, killed 2 grey squirrels.  We took one off him in the garden and he brought the other one in the house

Slow worms do look like snakes, one of my cats found one outside and it had it's tail damaged.  I did take it to the vets and one of the spanish vets took it home with him to recover and then released it into his garden  :Luv:

One [or more] of my lot went through a phase of bringing frogs into the house during the night. I went downstairs for a drink once, heard a noise and turned the light on to find a big frog in the middle of the kitchen floor. Thank god it made a noise or I'd have squished it [and I don't wear slippers].

They've never brought mice into the house, although I have found 2 dead on the grass in the back garden. They were intact and quite peaceful looking so I like to think that they copped a look at the resident "hit squad" and died laughing

Oh God the first time i saw a Slow Worm.....................

One of my cats brought one in a few years ago, well after screaming the house down i composed myself and rang my Mum (mums always know best)

I told her there was a SNAKE in my house  She asked if i was sure it was a Snake and i said YES.
Panic had set in again and i was screaming at her to tell me what to do - she said if i was sure it was a snake i should ring either the police or the Council.

I rang the council and again screamed and cried down the phone that there was a SNAKE in my house, the man asked me to describe it so i said it was about 10in long and gold colour - he started laughing and said it wasnt a snake "it was a Slow Worm Madam" - i said it couldnt be a worm as it had one of those funny tongues that went "Thhhhh"

To cut a long story short it was a Bloody Slow Worm and i felt rather silly - However i still couldnt touch it so got my neighbour to remove it from the house

My Reynard used to find baby bunnies and collect them. I would come home to find three cats demanding food and when I took it into the room where I fed them I would find a huddle of bunnies in the corner. I would then have to take them all outside and release them while the cats were otherwise occupied. Once it was a bandicoot which is something of a different proposition. They bite and scratch. So I spent a long half hour persuading the bandicoot into an Ugg boot so I could pick it up without being injured. In the process I realised the bandicoot had a nasty skin disorder so ended up going to the emergency after hours vet to have it treated before I could release it.

Poor Reynard never did figure out that the reason you catch these things is so you can eat them. He would look quite helpless when they started to move ....

Hm, I've never seen any down here, but there are supposed to be some, aren't there? Anyway, I know there's loads where we'll eventually be moving to (rural Sweden), and there's also normal lizards (slow worms are actually legless lizards - ok, I'm a geek). So I'm looking forward to interesting presents in the future...

My nan always credits her two cats for keeping her and my granddad in pigeons and other fowl during world war two.
That's so sweet!  :Luv:

a woman i know online has a Laperm babe called bramble..bramble gets outside and is forever bringing in "slow worms" big uns too apparently (ya know the snake type things)

she brought one in alive but had chomped its tail off, the owner put it outside only for it to be brought back inside so she then put it back out far away up behind trees when bramble was in and couldnt see where she put it..guess what !! the following day same said worm appeared inside again..next time she took it right out of her garden and so far i havent heard any updates.

(owner extremely disgusted and freaked out by these beasties)

We dont have slow worms up here, any of you lot get em "down south "  ?

A woman my mum worked with said her cat regularly bought home rabbits (not just baby ones, either) but they did live in the country.

My nan always credits her two cats for keeping her and my granddad in pigeons and other fowl during world war two. She says (she's 94) that she'd have had a much rougher time if they hadn't (she had a severely disabled child during that time, too, so not easy!)

I think cats are pretty amazing. My old cat, Fudge (RIP) used to bring in mice. My mum hates them, but I found them quite cute. He once let one go in our living room and (because of all my dad's junk!) it took 24hrs for us to get it out! But we did, alive and largely unharmed.
A cat can purr its way out of anything!

 Sounds like you had an exciting afternoon...

Anyway, birds aren't too bad, especially not if they're alive and can fly off... My old cat Rover always used to bring in earthworms, and lots of them. She could easily bring in a dozen in a day. And we didn't always find them fresh... sometimes they'd be dried into the carpet. Although what I really used to hate was getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, without turning the light on, and step on fresh wriggly worms.
