Cat dumped at vets

My god, how much is a tin of food? About 30p if you go to a supermarket and look for a cheap option - these people are disgusting. Even if you say you don't like animals it says alot about a person to deny a poor kitty basic rights to food and water etc

You would think these people would respect the relatives wishes - if she loved her cat then she would hate to know they didnt bother to feed her/keep her until she is better!!

but then if you hold the other end of the stick, the old codger could easily have put cat in the box and dumped it somewhere too
which would have been worse imo

The vets were well prepared - They had a form for him to sign over.

But the cat was not his to sign over, In a case like this we would certainly not re-home until a Social worker could confirm the issue.

I once knew a lady who had a fairly serious stroke. Her family were told she was going to die so they took her dog and had it PTS.  She recovered slowly, but none of her family could bring themselves to tell her what they'd done. She found out for herself when she was release from hospital, arrived home and the dog's things were not around. She hasn't spoken to her family from that day... 

This bloke who dumped Lucy had better be certain about his sister.  It's been a busy 24 hours for us in Canterbury...

odds are he was at the vet under instruction from the wife to have the cat PTS and was using his own initiative to enquire about a rescue option, but the wife needs a good smack imo.

Aww, the poor baby, I do hope that there is a happy ending for the little one, and do agree with Ela that it might not have been a good option to stay with the man if his wife didn't want it.

The vets were well prepared - They had a form for him to sign over. They got the cats name (Lucy) and his name & address - He said his sister's vet is in Canterbury. They are going to phone around the vets there. The problem is, she can't go to a cattery if her vaccinations aren't up to date. No doubt CP will end up paying for more 

I would like to slap his wife 

In hindsight, I should have asked for a donation - I can't believe he hadn't even fed the poor thing

No not naive.  it is something that must be found out before Cats Protection can put up a cat for homing.

We  find the hospital social worker is the best person to find out the full details in these cases.

I actually feel the old man did the right thing, yes perhaps he had no backbone not sticking up to his wife for not wanting it in the house, but what quality life would the little one have had if the wife did not like cats

Hi, Mark is there anyway you can find out his owners condition and if she really is going to be in hospital/ long term care. I was just wondering if he was getting rid of the cat in case she goes in hospital again and he doesn't want the responsibility of looking after it. Just a thought or am I being naive again

They are an excellent vets and I don't doubt they would have taken the cat anyway but still doesn't take away the fact that this heartless old B d wanted to offload. I asked if she was up to date with vaccinations and he said his sister doted on it so probably yes - she would be heartbroken I imagine

Some people just defy belief.  Let's hope we he needs help, someone doesn't take him somewhere in a cardboard box after giving him no food etc.   Thank goodness you were in the right place at the right time Mark.

How does it happen that that these cats keep turning up where us rescuers are - there is some strange force at work somewhere

While I was picking Alice up. There was a very old man there asking for CP phone number. The receptionist said I was CP and could give it to him. I told him he would have to leave a message and asked what the problem was. He said his sister had been taken into hospital and there was nobody to look after it. The receptionist asked why he couldn't take care of it for a while. He said his wife didn't want it in the house  She asked how long his sister would be in hospital - he said he didn't think she would be coming out. I rang Sharon who said there was a pen but it had been earmarked for Pilchard but if there was no alternative, we would have to take her. I asked where the cat was - he said it was in a cardboard box in his car. The receptionist said they will look after her for a while so we can sort thngs out. He sad "You better give it something to eat as it hasn't had anything" 
I felt like decking him but smiled sweetly
