Esther sounds like one in a million - smidgen and shadow are lucky to have such a sweet mommy-cat to keep them in line :Luv2: And is sounds like, in smidgen's case, it's just as well!  (I imagine shadow would be even more "put upon" otherwise - even if he does seem to enjoy it! :evillaugh:)

He also likes to hang with Shadow - they are often together at the back door when I get home. Rather cute, as all he really has to do is jump in the back window, but he keeps his pal company outside :Luv: THey are great mates and often Smidgen will climb onto Shadow for a snooze. Shadow has come to assume this is normal

oh well. She obviously had a home with people at some stage of her life. She is a real home body - usually inside and waiting for me when I get home - unlike a certain rapscallion who shall remain nameless ;)

Would love to know too what Esther's history is - all I know is that she was hanging around someone's garden and they realised that she was obviously pregnant.  They put food out for her and then one day when their back door was open she ran in and gave birth behind their settee - to four little gorgeous kittens (now known as Darcy, Rochester, Tiger Lilly and Leo!).  She came to me when the kittens were about 6 days old.  She was always wary of me at first but after a little while became to trust me, although she didnt like being picked up, but she purred like a goodun when stroked.  My mum named her Esther (after my late nan) and I think it really suits her - she was a great mum and she is one very very lucky cat to have found you.

One day you are going to have to tell me her story, Denise - she is such an affectionate girl, but there is just that little hint, occasionally, that she does not expect kindness from humans ... But yes, she is well comfy here - even sleeps on the bed. Last night Smidgen was under the blankets and Esther was 'hunting' the moving lump. Laughed myself silly at the pair of them. :Luv:

Aww Esther is lovely - it's great to hear that she has such a lovely home and is looking after Smidgen!  Had a couple of photos the other week of two of her babies, who are also lovely and big!

Esther is the sweetest cat I have ever known. She came to the house 2 days after Smidgen moved in. She had been speyed but was still lactating from her last litter. First of all, she tried to feed Smidgen (which I discouraged - not good for either of them, him being a great lump of a four month old), and then she just took him over as her special charge. She cuddles up with him, grooms him and beats him up when he gets out of hand. It's really lovely to watch them together.

Former neighbours of ours had a beautiful cat, Sasha, who used to walk with them to the corner shop.  The funny thing was, she would never cross that road on her own; only if she was with one of them.

Aww what a sweet, clever girl! My old cat Ash used to come walks with me and the dog when I lived at home, and would sometimes come to school to walk me home at the end of the day. Esther sounds gorgeous! Do you think she came out to protect you from the hooded youth? I love the idea of you getting a feline "escort" to make sure you got home ok! :evillaugh:

Was walking home in the dark this evening and there was a hooded lad standing on the footpath. Couldn't cross the road as there is no footpath on the other side and had to pass between him and a high metal railing to get past. Did my usual cheery 'evening' that I use to gauge the situation, and up pops a black cat from the front garden that is home to two lovely black cats and a calico girl. Said hello cheerily to her as well and kept walking only to find the cat was following me. Stopped and bent over to pat her (good chance to check out if the lad was still where i last saw him) and lo and behold she ups on her hind legs and gives my hand a head butt!! Now there is only one cat in the world who does that, and that is Esther. So I called her by name and off she came following me up the street. Waited with me while i waited for a traffic free moment and trotted across the street once she was sure I knew what I was doing, and on up the street to the front door where she became impatient about how long it took for the key to work. So much for letting her out the back window on the assumption a row of terraces would discourage investigation of the street!!! But what a clever girl to hide until she heard my voice and then make herself known :Luv: :Luv:
