Arrr I have to say bestpet have a bit of a vested interest in this one though...it is "up to" £15 and they know it's going to dent their profits as less people will bother getting a prescription and buying elsewhere.  I can't help but feel they're trying to pull the wool over people's eyes and react to the horror of £15 when in reality it's probably not going to be that much at most places.

Someone I know says their vet is going to charge £4.70 or something, not £15 - but the price of many of their own stock medicines is going to go down.

Ultimately, vets practices have much higher overheads than someone with a warehouse dispensing medicines, and they have to try and cover it somehow, so I'm not surprised really that they are now going to be allowed to charge so that you can get the stuff elsewhere.  If the free thingy had continued, vets would have 'lost' so much money from not making any profit on medicines, that they would have ended up hiking consultation/op charges to compensate.

So I guess that's a roundabout way of saying I don't fully agree with the petition, sorry  :shify:

I'm sure everyone else got the email today saying the government aren't going to stop them charging but are going to monitor the situation  :tired:

I had already previously signed this.

My vets currently charge just under £6 to give me a prescription - this charge is for medical advice apparently - not for the actual piece of paper.  Same difference!!

Signed....£15 for a piece of paper! Cheek!

Especially as I plan to buy my standard medications (Frontline etc.) from vets uk!

Would make the price of Zeratuls artificial tears go from £5.49 to £20.49 overall (£15 to the vet and £5.49 to the supplier)

I have never done this cos many vets would ask to see the cats so thats a £28 charge anyway!

It would effect cats that are on long term medication - or getting Stronghold etc from the internet

Cats are like little bundles of razor blades wrapped in soft fur.

It's important, especially as some vets charge ridiculous amounts.

Signed.

Many pet owners don't know that:

The moratorium on vets not charging for prescriptions ends this October!

That could mean we may go back to the old days when Vets charged pet owners as much as £15.00 to write a prescription. Bestpet feels these charges are an abuse of the monopoly vets have.

Please support our challenge to the Government to stop these charges coming back. Opticians are forced to offer a free prescription –Why not Vets???

Even if your pet does not need prescription items now, they could in the future.
