Lost Cat

Hi Maryas, we are still working hard to find Dizzy, waiting for him to come home, im surprised at the number of cats that do go missing. Your first cats experience gives us some hope.
Im sure Smudge and Dizzy will return in time.

I too am surprised and I'm surprised at how many cats I have received phone calls about and when I've been to see them they are nothing like the description I have on my posters.  However, I went to one that sounded nothing like Smudge and he was actually his double apart from the eyes.  So it goes to prove that one person's idea of what a cat looks like is not the same as anothers.  Got my 1st foster cat yesterday tea time - I will start a new post called My Bonnie is not a Gangster, complete with photos on Sunday or maybe sooner as I am really busy with Bonnie and other things.  Good luck with Dizzy.

Ive been saying the exact same thing to a friend of mine who lost her cat also,... not to long ago, every path you looked up had a cat sat on a window ledge, poking out from under a parked car or sat on a door step, now theres hardly any around, infact i havent seen any  cept my own around  for a few days now..... maybe its the cold weather.... where have all the strays suddenly gone?

Hi Philmoure - keep at it, no matter how hard it is.  I've been crying every day since my 13 yr old Smudge went missing Sept 4th but I'm hoping like my 1st cat that went missing at the age of 11 came back after 3 months and lived to be 26.  I can't cope without a cat in my life and I have decided to foster.  Waiting for the RSPCA to call me with one.  My friend and her husband were at a Christmas party tonight and they are stopping at a hotel - so I offered to sit in with their cat - it was so nice.

Philmoure, if you can, put your posters in those clear document folders, the ones that go in ring-binders, it will protect them from the weather (especially if you remember to tape over the top )

Hi, yes you are right Dizzy is a gorgeous cat and is sorely missed. We have tried really hard to get him back.

Contacted the local cat rescues, vets, even the local councils contractors, for dead animal collections. Poster-ed the local area shop, and supermarket, Various websites.

 Last week we had a nice little feature in our local paper.

We have had some sightings, but sadly they were not Dizzy.

Will need to replace some of our posters on lamp posts etc due to weather deterioration.

Thank you all for your welcome comments, its nice to see that some people really do care.

he looks like a lovely cat, we will keep an eye out, i look on most sites for my lost cat every other day so ill keep my eyes peeled....

have you done all the things on Sam's list? some really help,you could try local pet ambulance,they were a big help for me...

Hi and  to Purrs,  So sorry you found us under such sad circumstances.

Sorry To hear your furbabe has gone AWOL.

Here are a few things to try:

1. Posters, Posters, Posters with picture and details with contact number.....hand out to neighbours and anyone you see. Put up in local shops, pubs and supermarkets. Stick to all local lamp posts. (If it rains go and collect them and replace however it's best to put posters in plastic wallets so if it rains they don't go all soggy - the neighbours and council don’t mind you putting them up so much that way).  Also put one in your and friends cars - it amazing how many people see them this way. Make smaller flyers and push through every letterbox on your streets and the surrounding area.   It is a good idea to offer a reward … of course this doesn’t have to be money … a box of cho-colates or a bunch of flowers is just as good.

2. Knock on doors and ask neighbours to check their sheds and garages WHILE YOU WAIT … it's surprising how many people say they will check but as soon as the door is closed they forget.   Knock on 10 doors either side of your house on both sides of the street.

3. Register him lost at all vets/catteries/rescue homes within a 20mile radius.  Follow the link and click on the map to find rescues in your area catchat.org/adoption/index.html

4. Leave food out and a toy of his

5. Leave out an unwashed item of your clothing

6. Put the contents of your hoover bag on your garden - it’s full of smells that they will recognise and if doesn’t bring him directly to your door will at least hopefully keep him in the area. Alternatively if you have a litter tray that has used put some of the used litter on the garden as this will have familiar smells in it.

7. Contact the local fire brigade and see if they have had to rescue any stuck cats

8. Ask the local children to look - they are great for knowing all the local hidey-holes and love helping. Also have a word with your local post-person and milk man if there is one that delivers in your area.   Also try and enlist the help of people walking dogs as they tend to go “off road” in the fields and parks.

9. Ask the local radio station to announce he’s missing and give out a contact number

10. Put an advert in the local paper

11. Contact your local environmental services dept (bin men) they keep a log of all animals picked on the roadside ... I know this is not a pleasant call to make and hopefully it will come back as negative.

12. Go out after dark when it is quieter with a friend / partner and walk round the local area gently calling every so often (give him a chance to answer you). Keep talking as you walk round that way if he is in the area he will hear you.

13. When you talk to vets and rescues, ask them about any known local feral colonies and where they are based. If Kitty has been missing for more than a few days s/he might have wandered further afield and might be “hanging round” near a colony for security (safety in numbers) and company. If vets/rescues know locations of colonies, these might be useful to get some ideas of where to start looking.

He has a distinctive white tip on his tail
