I think it is just early days with her, and I think time and patience will help a lot. A/D is wonderful stuff, but you do have to watch how much you give a week though, my vets recommend once a week for cats that are on the thin side, as they can get addicted to it and start to refuse anything else, and it isn't good for long term feeding. I also give cat milk to cats that need building up, and allow them more dry food than I would normally. Depending on her age, you might also be able to use kitten food on her as well.
Please spay your cat

Feliway from vet uk is loadssssssssssssss cheaper, and if you use a rescue link they get 5%  ;D

If she likes the a/d you can buy it from vet uk, keep P+P costs in minds tho.
Its generally very palatable, and if you mix it with a little hot water it makes a lovely whiff

Hills ad diet comes from the vet and is about a £1 a tin, excellent stuff but I would get one and see if she eats it.

dy told me, although the family were fond of the cats, they didn't look after them.  They were fed by kind neighbours most of the time.  Where would I be able to buy the food you recommend Milly's Mum - it might be worth trying.  I just feel so useless - she looks such a little scrap.

That is not long, then, if she has had a less than happy background before she came to you?  As your vet has given her a clean bill of health, I think it is probably a question of patience, Feliway, soft music and generally being quiet and unthreatening around Portia.  Does she like to play at all (I am guessing not)?

Was she used to a home environment before she came to you?

You could try feliway.

Theres a food called a/d that is high fat and good for cats needing to put on weight. Also oily fish is a nice treat.
You could also try cat milk but monitor the tray as some cats cant tolerate it even tho its reduced lactose.

We have had her for 6 weeks Christine and we also have her brother Oliver.  When they first came Ollie used to cry if he couldn't see her but now he is settling in, he hardly ever does.

How long has Portia been with you, Puddypaws?  Is her brother with you too or with someone else?

Can I ask you all for some advice regarding Portia.  She seems depressed and spends most of her time in her safety place, behind the TV.  She comes out for food and is eating well enough and sometimes she will lie on the windowledge.  I wonder whether it is because she has always had kittens to rear until we got her and also Oliver, her brother, but he is settling in quite well and does not cry for her as he used to.
she is painfully thin but our vet saw her a couple of weeks ago and says she will put weight on.  Although she will occasionally let me stroke her we cannot pick her up so I can't weigh her as it would traumatise her too much at present.  She has been wormed and doesn't seem to have anything medically wrong.  Is there anything I can do that might help?
