Its rare to have probs with one so young  ;)

It sounds like they're still figuring out who's in charge. If Cleo is timid, it isn't likely to be her! I have four cats and the two that have been with me the longest are most definately top of the group. The tom is the most assertive, but because he came to me when Old Mog was around five and he was a baby he kind of sees her as his "mum" so she's the only one he won't try and boss around!

I agree with BC. I generally introduce cats fairly quickly to each other and let them figure it out for themselves - unless as said, it looks like one of them will be hurt!

it's true. the more you intervene between animals who are sorting out a pecking order, the longer it takes. I generally only step in when bloodshed is threatened. They hiss, swear and wrestle and it looks terrifying, but they are just doing what animals do. If you take sides, or separate them, you just prolong the agony ...

In that case you need to find a day when you have the time, arm yourself with a water pistol and all sit in the one room. Separate litter trays and food and wait. And then wait some more. A bit of scrapping needs to be done to sort out the hierachy but you have your weapon if it gets too heated.

I've had Smokey for a couple of months now and he and Josh still aren't 100% but they're well on the way.

This is just what I'd do though, I'm by no means an expert.  ;D

Of thw 6 weeks they've probably only spent 24 hrs in the same room as each other (supervised!!!)  as they ended up having hissy fits and fights and me being a worrier decided to seperate them.  When they are outside and Ralphs chased them off they tend to go their own separate ways and leave each other to do whatever they want to do

Out of the six weeks, how long have they been together?

I'd say don't give up yet. It can take many weeks and you seem to get nowhere but I'm sure it'll work out. They just need to establish who's "Top Cat".

Make sure you give the original cats loads of fuss and love and they should put up with it until all settles down.

Hope it works out xx

I know it's flown by - the only suggestions i get from people near me are that i will have to look at finding another home for him but i really do not want to have to do that unless absolutely necessary!!

I can't believe that 6 weeks already that you have had him, does't time fly.  No advice sorry, I will leave that to the more experianced boys/girls here

This is really a follow on from Snarfs post about her spare cat.

I've had Ralphie my new cat for 6 weeks now and he' started going out now as he's used to the house and the area.  However he chases my other 2 cats away, i don't know if this is him trying to play but he really doesn't seem to like Cleo or should i say she doesn#t like him.  If she's lying down he will come up to her sniff at her and then jump up which wakes her she then growls hisses and backs away from him and a kerfuffle follows and i have to break them up.

Jet just stays away when Ralph is out and comes in once i've got Ralph in doors.

I've tried sprayinh feliway in the house and rubbing it on them but it doesn't seem to have worked, have also tried following wizz's advice.  Do you think they will ever get on or am i just worrying about nothing??  I do fret about them as Cleo is timid anyway and i don't want her being scared and on edge all the time.

 :thanks:

I'v tried feliway
