poor peach, your daughter must be very upset.  if she does decide to get another kitten in time going to a rescue might save the heartache you are all going through now - I'm glad the other two are well

I am so sorry, poor Peach   :'(  RIP Peach, you will have a whole new and happy life on the bridge.

When did she start being in pain? Did the vet say what had caused this?

I am so pleased the other two are OK.

Sorry have no useful advise really but fingers crossed.

The only thing i would say is how sure are you that she has no control and is actually incontinent versus just being poorly with diarrhoea +/- urine infection or actually not litter trained yet ??

I'd be extremely reluctant..actually i just WOULDNT do anything drastic until i had her health restored somewhat and knew her habits and behaviours better.

Let us know how you get on

no its just must be the angle of the photo, Ruby is mine, Peach is her sister who is living with Rachel and Tigger is the ginger boy who is their brother and who lives with Caroline our friend ( Tweety on here).....the three of us took a kitten each from a litter of 5.

........she just didnt have much of a clue about anthing to do with rearing  cats.

Ah, I'm with you now! Certainly sounds like she didnt have a clue, still they are in the right places now to be cared for properly.

Peach is not too bad today, her bum is sore thats why she walks funny and 'leaks' everywhere. the vet not too worried

here they all are, Tigger and Ruby (front) and Peach traveling to our homes last saturday

Glad Peach seems a bit better Rosemary.  I'm a bit confused - who's is the ginger one? Is he one of the kittens too? - He looks a lot bigger than the other two.

Poor Peach.(And poor your daughter too.)

I've no idea what could be wrong, but it sounds like it warrants another vet visit. (I'm on a low income too, so I can understand how stressful this will be for your daughter.) Definately contact the PDSA to find out what help your daughter is entitled to with Peaches treatment.

Hope Peaches health improves and the other two kittens continue to be fine.

My cousin had the same thing happen with her cat Indie with regards to collecting early. She basically got a call from the woman when he was six weeks! saying that if he wasn't collected that day she'd give him to someone else. Heartless individual!

Can't answer that one I'm afraid .... I'm not a vet and have no veterinary training so it would be unfair to say anything.

sorry i dont know but think your daughter should be made aware of the possibility and if he does then he must give good reason and that absolutely nothing can be done .

if the kitten is happy and playing i hope that he will be able to help her.

Poor Peach  :(

I took a litter of 5 kittens to the vet yesterday. they have similar symptoms where they have no control over their bowels and are not using the tray although they are eating and playing normally. This has been going on for weeks and the fosterer has tried everything. She wormed them 2 weeks ago, has tried prebiotic powder, bland diet etc with no success. The vet took the temperature of one of them which was normal. She also said if there was any infection, they would be ill but they appear normal apart from the pooing. The vet said the most likely cause was worms even though they were only done 2 weeks ago. She wormed them and we will see if it helps before trying anything else.

This does Not sound anything like Panleukopenia; it sounds more like something physical than virus related.
If it had been Panleukopenia they would all have been dead in a couple of days after refusing food and lying drooped over a water bowl.

She may have suffered some sort of nerve damage which could account for the "funny walk" and lack of bladder/bowel control.

I think the vet is the best person to advise on this problems.

Sending lots of positive vibes that she gets well soon.

Thats not what Tarka has then.

Sounds like this is very infectious, is that right? So if it is other cats and kittens should be kept away and it should be in isolation?
the other kits have not been with her since saturday and they are showing no signs of illness. if it was infectious surely they would also have syptoms???

I think in cats Parvo is also know as Panleukopenia ... the following website might be able to answer some of your questions:

This sounds a bit like Tarka who is a canterbury resue kitten and who is currently at the vets and is not improving.
Sorry I cant help but at present there is no good news for Tarka.

I hope at the very least the other two kittens stay OK and goodluck at the vets tomorrow

Incontinent kitten
« Reply #1 on: October 04, 2007, 21:27:37 PM »
On Saturday, my daughter, her friend and myself brought home litter sisters and brother.

Ruby (mine) and Tigger (friends) are extremely well and no problems with their health so far............however, Peach is not so good.
Its a long story but basically we took these kittens earlier than planned cos of lies told to us by the woman whose cat gave birth.

They are all approx 9 weeks old.

My daughter picked up her kitten and said she wasn't happy with the way the kits rear end appeared to be. I looked but thinking that perhaps the kit had just used the litter I thought that was why she was wet and a little swollen. (My error)

we got them home to out separate homes and all seem well until I got a call from my daughter. The little kitten had no control over her bowels and was very runny.

ASAP we took her to the vet who warned us it COULD be Parvo and in that case the kits would all die in three days as the others would be infected also. He gave her an injection of anti  biotic and wormed her and gave a course of  anti biotics. again warning us that rapid deterioration would happen if it was parvo.

The good news is that the other kits remain healthy and little Peach is a lot improved regards the swelling BUT she still has no control over her bowels or weeing.
She is not using a litter tray nor does she appear to know when he is going to wee or poop. the pen she is in for safety when my daugther leaves home is covered with the stuff. when she comes home she has to clean the cage and of course she has to also clean the kit.

then she tries to play with her and cuddle her only to find that whereever the kit goes she leaves a trail of poop an her clothes an furniture.

this is not right and we do not know what to do. Of course we shall take her to the vets again but, my daughter is an invalid and is only on benefits of low wage and already she has spent out all her money on the kit.

We cant get insurance to cover her as she is already ill. But that is only money and there will be a way around that, even if it means using the PDSA.

Have any of you any ideas what is wrong and what can be done for this little baby. there is no use us asking the woman we got her from as she has moved *yes already..she was all packed and ready to go on Saturday* this is one of the reasons we got the kits early.

Please if you have any advise other than take her to the vets, which we are doing tomorrow, please can you give us some hope.....or prepare us for the worst.
