If you buy a pack of camomile tea bags and make a cup of the tea (no milk or sugar ) and allow to cool until slightly warm then gently use the tea to bathe and cleanse the eye it will really help. Use a clean cotton pad each time and apply the ointment afterwards,I presume vet has given you Fucithalmic,if so treat both eyes it wont hurt. It really works.

I wonder if that works with geckos?! I have two and one of them is recovering from a bad bout of conjunctivitis. Currently, her eye is bathed with really diluted salt water, but I might see if camomile teabags work better!

I'm off to get some camomile teabags too, to offset the constant fucithalmic. Plus you can drink most of it and just leave some for the eyes!

Vet told me btw that valerian teabags (pure; not mixed) can work like catnip too. I can't find any that aren't mixed with other herbs though. Anyone know if they do work?

[/quote Teresa   , thats what we do at home, for humans!!When you have tired eyes or infection,and first time here i used it for my dd and it worked!!But we use just black tea, its good to know camomile works too.x

Thank you everyone for your help. I will try the camomile tea idea. I've been to the vet and got the antibiotic pills so let's hope that Ollie soon improves. Poor little guy, he's possibly been through a lot in his short life so it would be great to have him healthy and happy.

Dont know how or why it works I guess Camomile has soothing healing powers; I just know that little eyes that would otherwise have been lost were saved as a result.

This sounds like a great tip. Smokey gets it fairly often even though I bathe his eyes and clear gunk out all the time. I think it's a mistreated persian thing. How does it work though T?

And can I over-clear his eyes? I sometimes wonder if I'm doing it too much and his body's just replacing lost gunk.

Yeap hun the lads are fantastic and both very healthy. They are mad!!!  and growing so quick you should see Marl's now!!  Even bigger bits!  Have taken pics and will post up soon.

Sorry to hear you had such troubles with Marley and Garf Tan, I know Marley had weepy eyes but didn't know they got so bad. Hope they are both better now.

Have just recently had exactly the same with my youngesters with Conjunctivitis. Marley was fit and healthy when we adopted him and he got it first in both eyes the vets think it was a reaction to his 1st vac, some cats do some don't.  He had very red eyes and yellowy green dischrage and a temp. He was treated first by eye ointment (Fucithalmic) and an anitbyotic and pain killer injections called Metacam and Clamoxyl, it was very hard to get the cream in his eyes and so in a few days he was back to the vets. They gave me another eye cream and he had another different antibyotic injection and also a 7 day antibyotic course Synulox.  The very next day his eyes were clear was a great 2nd injection but i dont know the name.  Sadly Garfy started in one eye that same day and his eye was worse than Marleys. Went to the vets the next day with Garf and he had the same injection with a 2 day course of Synulox and eye drops (Maxitrol) so it was easier for me to put them in his eye. I was told that we could only use the Maxitrol drops if there is no scratch in the eye at all. They put an orange dye in his eye to make sure there were no scratches so we could use the drops.  His eye cleared up within two days and both are fine now

It is infectious to all other cats so they say it is best to treat them too but best to check with your vet.

Teresa beat me to the , treat both eyes with what the vet has given you, but I agree maybe that prescription is need too.

Hopw the eyes improve and if not go back to the vet

Oliver is a rescue cat, aged 2 or 3 years. We adopted him along with Basil, age 1 just over a week ago. In the shelter we noticed that one of Ollies eyes seemed infected.The staff said that it was because he was scratched by another cat, however, when we took him to the vet, he said it was conjunctivitis and gave him antibiotic eyedrops. That was 5 days ago and Ollie does not seem to be improving, in fact now his other eye is infected.( I know how contageous this is so I am careful to dispose of the tissues that I use on Ollie).  The whites of both eyes are very red and they are both 'weeping' and sometimes it looks like yellow 'gunk'. I think that although the shelter people were lovely, they did not give him prompt or appropriate treatment. The drops and ointment that they gave me were just over-the counter stuff rather than antibiotics so who knows how long he has been like this. The vet has also given him a prescription for antibiotics which he said to give if nothing improves after 10 days, however, I don't think I want to wait that long so I will pick the pills up later today. I have been reading about this condition in cats and about it potentially being caused by the herpes virus so if there is no improvement after a course of pills I will go back to the vet. Meanwhile, has anyone any tips as to how I can make Ollie more comfy? At the moment I am wiping his eyes whenever they need it but is there anything else that I can do for him?
