Clicker training for cats!

Never tried clicker training on the cats but I used it on Gonzo (my parrot with issues) and he responded really well to it!

I have the book and a clicker but have never really got down to any serious clicker training.  I think I had a problem with the fact that it suggests separating cats and training them one at a time.  Jaffa is very amenable to clicker training as he'll do anything for a treat or a cuddle

I'd like to think that clicker training would work on cats but I'm dubious...Humphrey would be having none of it, I'm sure 

He's far too clever for his own good at times; I got one of those laser pointers and while the rest of them were charging about all over the place, Humphrey just sat back and watched for a bit and then came over and investigated the actual pointer.

The ladies would have an attack of the vapours at the mere suggestion of them doing ANYTHING on demand and Dave would have a nervous breakdown at the sound of the thing. And Basil...my lovely Ginger shadow  is....lets say....not the sharpest knife in the drawer  . Probably wouldn't work.

Helen how are the boys getting on with the clicker

Haven't clicked for ages!  Might start up again at breakfast and dinner times though, it's just remembering to do it when you've got two cats weaving themselves round your legs, jumping up - it's all I can do to get the food in the bowls!

Forgot to ask where would you get  a clicker might give it a go 

I got mine from Pets at Home, it was £2 ish

I started clicker training with milly ages ago but couldnt grasp how you finish with the treat giving and just use the click 
Most animals can be clicker trained, cats dogs dolphins rats....

I'm under no illusion that they are only coming to the click because they know they will get milky flake-ums as a reward, that's the same reason they come to their names    Am still really impressed with them though, my clever little boys

I'm not surprised... cats are smart! 

But I have figured that although mine do come running when I call their names, they always expect to be fed. Therefore, the mention of their names means food is on the way. Jumpy=food. Tilly=food.

I thought I'd try and clicker train the boys while they are still young and impressionable Started the training less than 10 minutes ago... I started by calling their names (which they associate with getting either cuddles or treats and always come running to) and clicking at the same time.  I then clicked as the treats were placed on the floor.  I have been hiding in various parts of the house clicking and they are coming racing up to me wherever I am hiding 

I can't believe that within 10 minutes of me starting they are now clicker trained! It's actually quite good fun trying to run to whichever room I'm hiding in fast enough (whilst they are gobbling the 'reward') so that they don't see where I have gone and are definitely responding to the click rather than seeing me!
