Perfect timing as my coworker leaves soon and I get to pass a bit of information her way prior to her leaving.

She did mention a knot of hair on his back leg near his back/tail. And lack of teeth that they could see. So we're trying to get either her or the person that owned the cat to take it to the vets for a full MOT.

Jedi (the cats name) likes to be brushed so that will at least not be a problem. He wasn't eating the cat food they had down for him so she's been giving him a variety of wet food to try which he likes the gravy part.

Anything you wanno know just shout!  ;D The main thing of course is grooming. Persians have a double coat, undercoat and top coat. Its the undercoat that can cause the problems of matting, especially at moulting times, so regular combing of loose undercoat fur will help prevent mats. A small metal comb is ideal, with medium/fine spaced teeth, combing from the root of the hairs to the tip - helps to part the fur as you go. Grooming needs to be done every day really, also a bath and blow dry will help prevent knots, but no bathing if the coat is already knotty - wet+knots = big mats LOL!  ;D Some grooming tips on my website http://scruffyjoe.mysite.orange.co.uk

Some persians suffer with runny eyes, so need wiping every day too, to prevent horrible stained 'gutter's that run from the tear duct down each side of the nose.

Food, avoid dry, especially if its a male (not enough moisture in dry food). A little dry food as perhaps treats each day is ok, but shouldnt be the only food. Wet food should be high meat content (Natures Menu, almo nature, applaws etc) - persians in particular can be intolerant to the ingredients in the low meat content wet foods.

Anything else they want to know - I'll be happy to help.

Hi Aufersthan
I did have have 2 Persian boys of which 1 had to be PTS last year. They were/are affectionate & loved to be groomed ~ a good thing as they get quite knotted if not done on a regular basis. Using baby talc on the coat helps smooth out tangles. Something sooooo satisfying in getting loads of dead hair out!
Louis is quite bad with toileting & will wee where he wants even though I have several trays around. Dont mind in the bath which is his latest bo bo but at least I can see it & wash it away. He poo's in the tray but not wee's.
Dont be discouraged by this as not all Persians are the same.

Coworker just got her husbands brothers cat, who from the looks of it is Persian.

They've not had a cat in years so any information/advice would be helpful.

Seems like this 5 year old cat may have lost some teeth somewhere along the way.

I've only ever had shorthaired cats so I'm rubbish and though I'll be googling Persians ;)
