Really sorry about the little one Dawn, we just lost two wee ones recently - so sad. We had our RDM up to our meeting the other night and she made a very good point about vets and the amount of business they get from us as rescues. She said that whilst they sometimes act as if they are doing us a favour by giving us discounts etc in actual fact we are doing them a favour as the amount of business they get from us over a year probably pays for a member of staff and if we didn't give them our business they may not be able to employ that member of staff or at least only be able to pay for them part time. We hadn't thought of it like that but she is right, imagine how much money they get off rescues over a 12 month period, especially those like yourself Dawn who often take in cats and kittens with major health problems. Something to think about with the vets who aren't as good as Sean is.

I have an epileptic cat and I remember a couple of years ago, I had to get her in because she was continually fitting......it was a different vet who was on at the time and the cat was kept in overnight. I think if I hadn't have been so tired, I would have questioned what he'd said but he reckoned all they would do, was keep her in the dark, and keep her warm until the fits subsided. She may not have survived if she'd have gone in but I'm bloody annoyed the fact she'd never had the chance and I think if anything, he should have put her out of her misery. That particular vet has blown it good style with me now anyway, he's only over for a couple of months locuming as he now lives in Spain but I won't be dealing with him again and it's a shame because I've known him a few years now and have always thought he was alright........

I wouldn't be able to part with them, so cloning would not be a good idea.......I don't think hubby would be too impressed having lots of Sean's running round the place

The emergency vet should have given a dose of diazepam and waited while the fitting subsided (this is the treatment for humans). Whenever I call the emergency out, I usually get Trev and he must curse the day I walked through those doors

On a few occasions, I've called them out 2 nights running and poor Trev has been on call. Sean did point out that they are vets, that what they are there for and not to worry. Sean dealt with one of mine the night before last, I felt awful because I'd texted him to tell him he could go to bed, and then an hour later I had to call him out

Lesley, when I've cloned Sean, I'll be keeping the clone here for me, so when Sean's off, I'll still be able to use him

I wouldn't panic, if any would get a reaction, it would be a very, very small percentage, . And I'm not 100% it was that but I have a horrible feeling it was. You also have to bear in mind, a lot of the kittens I get in are compromised with their immune system in some way, so I suppose they are more likely to get a reaction than a healthy one. I'm going to have a proper chat with Sean about it and see what he thinks and get a few pointers off the other vets as well, Sean's away for a week now but I'll see him when he gets back.

Ian said he's not had any problems with Stronghold but he was saying the timespan with the pet shop one's is 24 hours, so I would assume the same could be said for the vet ones. Like Nick said, any animal can have an adverse reaction where others wouldn't. I only use the veterinary ones but I'm really dubious using them now

The Stronghold kitten is for kittens over 6 weeks, and I've used it a few times on the tinies because they are too small for the Milbemax, it's hard knowing what to do now just in case.

Re the vet, he will be getting a piece of my mind when I see him......Sean said he would have given her something to stop her fitting and if need be, put her to sleep. Hubby thinks a vet is a vet, but I think he's starting to realise now why I won't deal with certain ones and out of choice, I would only deal with Sean

The kitten was continually fitting every few minutes initially so chances are brain damage would have set in anyway.

that goes with the job. I saw a woman in Tescos yesterday looking at all the spot ons. I told her about the email from my vet. She sid she had the email too but had to do something as she was going on Holiday that night. She said she wished she could get the proper one without taking them to the vet but was stuck. She said they were done 4 weeks ago and would it hurt for them to go 6 weeks. I told her to order some frontline from vetUK and do it the day she got back rather than take a risk. hopefully it was the right advice.

I suppose cats like humans or any other mammal can have adverse reactions to drugs. I really have mixed feelings about giving kittens spoton or any flea treatment . Obviously one doesn't want the whole menagerie scratching itself to death but I'd far rather suffer the odd flea than lose a cat to such an awful end poor little mite. I don't profess to have a solution but I have terrible anxiety about my babes having adverse reactions to drugs of any kind. its a real dilemma isn't it.

I Strongholded some of the kittens the other night and sadly one of them started fitting the night after

I'd already had the emergency vet out the night before and I know it sounds daft but if it's the same vet, I feel awful waking them in the night. Anyway, I phoned up my other surgery and was told when they fit, there really isn't anything they could do and to keep her calm, warm and in the dark and take her in in the morning. It resulted in me holding her all night and the inevitable happened

I was telling Sean about it last night and he was disgusted that they didn't say to take her in. He said it just seemed a case of not be arsed coming out and not that they couldn't do anything

I also got a telling off for not texting him as he said he could have at least advised me, and I should have got in touch telling him what the other vet had said. I'm not sure if the Stronghold had anything to do with it or whether there was something else underlying but when I mentioned it to Ian yesterday, he said he has known that the pet shop spot ons can cause fitting 24 hours later but he's not had any problems with the spot on Stronghold. I have decided now 100% that any emergencies regardless of anything, I will be using Sean's vets......that's the second time I've been given bull s*** advice and it's not going to happen a third time
