the only bowl Max ignored was the stainless steel one, maybe it made his water taste funny?  Anyways, he has plastic food bowls and a ceramic water bowl downstairs, but his favourite water one is the human bowl in the lounge    I put it up there last year when it was really not to save him having to go downstairs for a drink, and now he won't drink anywhere else in the house

Those cat saucers sound like the shallow one I have for Lexy. Brown outside, blue inside? I would love more colours too.

I use what are called cat saucers, just plain old boring beige but they are shallow with straight sides and about 6 inches across and all my cats like em, even Kocka did 

Those are what I use too.  They're ideal, although I do wish you could get them in different colours.

The cats have a combination of plastic and stainless steel bowls (mainly ss inside and plastic outside), all kitten dishes are plastic and for cat shows they have the round white ceramic ones from PAH. Mine really don't care what the bowl is made from as long as it doesn't bend their whiskers too much.

It does annoy me slightly at times that it can be hard to find really big cat food bowls so the poor cats have got a food dish that says 'dog' on it lol.

I have the white ceramic dishes from PAH, I have four, two round and two triangular. Lexy loves the latter as these are higher backed which allows her to slurp her wet food over .

I also have the brown ceramic dishes for her water, it seems to keep the water cooler for longer especially in colder weather. I have a shallow one for her dry food.

I love any cat dishes but I tend to avoid plastic. I keep thinking of the days when we picnicked in South Africa and had our drinks in plastic cups. The taste is just not the same.

I think I know what you mean as some Restaurents serve creme brulee or other deserts in them. Funnily enough as I was reading this thread, the thought of them came into my mind before I got to your post.  I also know a pub in Cornwall that used to use them as ashtrays.

Plastic dishes leave phenol residues in the food/water, which isn't good for puss.

This is what I've started to do:

go out with friends for an indian, order a chocolate mousse dessert (comes in a ramekin type dish). When the waiter asks if you want coffee, smile nicely and ask if you can keep the dish (they toss them anyway, as they come ready-frozen). One of my locals not only lets me keep that dish, but will bring me several others for the cats - I'm a regular. Now I've a nice collection of ceramic small ramekin dishes which are great for summer-sized cat meals - small portions to avoid flies!

I use the stainless steel ones for Rosie. I get them from Poundland as they sell the 2 single dishes in a double holder, which keeps them off the floor. They come out completley so easy for washing. Grat value as I have seen them on sale elsewhere for around £4.99, but £1 from Poundland!!

You can also get em with coloured insides and pictures which cost more, all ceramic.

Plastic tends to hold the smells although I always used plastic ones until I found the saucers.

hmmm, they sound good - esp for the price!!!!!!  i read something about high sided dishes not being very nice for cats as they bend their whiskers back???  makes sense i guess, as does the not liking steel, i would think you'd taste it..... but then i guess thats what our cutlery is made from!

I have tried every kid of dish going and I found some excellent ceramic ones in Wilkinsons last week. Although they sell ceramic cat bowls cheap, I bought salad bowls  - they are perfect as they are bigger than the cat bowls and the sides are slanted so clapton doesn't get the food all over the floor and big enough that he can get his head in properly. The sides aren't too high They are 75p each  - and they are marked up 3 for the price of 2  - I am going to get another 3 tomorrow. They are just plain old beige but are fine. I find they struggle a bit with dishes that have straight sides. They stand up in the dishwasher too!! 

btw - I have found he won't eat from the plastic ones and is even a bit funny about the stainless steel ones.

also, another reason i'm looking is cos i like buying the blighter things, but one cat bed and one scratching tower thing later, both of which werent very cheap (not expensive, but i have no money!) and which i thought looked bloomin marvelous,  were completely ignored and just annoy my parents.  dont know what to do with them though!!!!  little..... angel my jasper!!!!

so anyway, he loves food so maybe this would be something he'd appreciate!!!!!!!!!

i know this is weird and probabaly dull subject, but does anyone have any particularly nice cat dishes???   jasper has these plastic ones and they just dont do it for me!!

i've seen gorgeous ones from wetnoz, but they rather expensive....

does food taste any different from metal ceramic or plastic do we think????   

just general wondering for good ideas really!!
