Thankyou to Tiggy`s mum for that lovely poem, it really does say it all. And to Philip for reminding me of that adventurous car journey home. I will never forget the little man. I pray that he is at rainbow bridge playing with those that have gone before him. The pain of losing him cuts like a knife into my chest but i`m so pleased that he is at peace.

RIP sweet boy, i will never forget you x

RIP Monty, my Tiggy will take care of you at the Bridge until your Mum comes to collect you

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."
Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

Thankyou to everyone for the kind wishes at such a difficult time, it really is much appreciated. My heart goes out to everyone who has had to say goodbye to their much loved friends. They depend on us so much to make the right decisions. When i got up yesterday morning and saw that look in his eyes i briefly went and sat in the garden whilst i thought what to do. We had the appointment at the vets already but i was trying to decide whether i had to let him go. I had so many mixed feelings at first but as soon as i thought about it from his point of view the decision was already made. It has given me great comfort knowing that i have done the best for him even if it broke my heart to do so. It`s so weird in the house without him here.

I am taking him up to the crematorium tomorrow morning where i can say my final goodbyes.

I would just like to pass on my condolences to all those who are also grieving the loss of a beloved pet

 sorry to hear your sad news, went through the same thing myself very recently.

He was lucky to have spent the last years of his life with someone who loved him very much.

Bob and the others would meet him at the bridge to make sure he arrived safely

 God Bless Monty

Hi Amanda - so sorry about Monty,

A soft full tail, exquisite eyes,
soft purring at the door,
playful swatting, frequent naps,
toys strewn across the floor.

With gentle rubs and playful purring
you made your presence known
and, knowing you were always there,
we never felt alone.

You loved it when we scratched your ears,
we swear it made you smile.
We could never stay angry with you,
we couldn’t if we tried.

The soft sweet purring now has ceased,
no gentle rubs to greet us,
just memories of our special Monty
and good times are all we see.

Although we miss you dearly,
we’ll try not to feel so blue,
because we know that there’s a bridge
for special cats like you.

Rest in peace Monty   :RIP:

If you are anything like me, although the grief is almost unbearable, the decision is actually straightforward.  Because of the bond of love you have with your special boy you know that the last great demonstration you can make of that love is to show him that final kindness.  I think it was the Queen Mum, talking about grief who said that although it doesn't get easier with time you do get better at it.  No-one will ever replace your boy but there will be others out there who need your love and will return it in spades - some things will remind you of Monty and make you smile whilst others will be all their own!!!  Big hug!

It is the hardest decision to make, but you do have to think of what's best for the cat not yourself - my husband and I had to make that same decision at the weekend - and yes I agree a cat's eyes tell you an awful lot as Suki told us it was her time to go too.

RIP Monty

i am so very sorry to hear this Amanda, it is never an easy thing to do, but sounds like you did the best by him, and he was lucky to have had 2.5 years with you and got the medical care he needed, he may not have had as long if he had been left with his previous owners. He sounds like a wonderful cat, RIP little one.

Its great that you could make this difficult decision for Monty and now he will not have to suffer. Its the hardest thing in the world to do but you did it with kindness and thought and it was a peaceful way to go to the Bridge for Monty

The only thing that is making it a little bit better is that i know i made the decision just in time before he started really going down hill. He was meant to be going to the vets today for just a check up but i knew when i woke up today and looked at him that it had to be done. I think from late last night he was surviving, not really living, and i knew that i couldn`t do that to him. If i`d have brought him home from the vets today and waited any longer then i would have been doing it for myself and not for Monty. I bet he was such a cute kitten but i`m glad i had the time with him that i did. He had had chronic asthma due to the conditions he had had to live in before i got him and he was so good at having his inhalers even though he didn`t really like them! Also, i couldn`t have wished for a more peaceful ending for him at the vets. We saw the vet that we always see and she is so sensitive in situations like this. She gave me her honest opinion and we talked it over for quite a while. Then she let me spend some time on my own with him before i had to say goodbye. He rubbed on my hands as i was stroking him which was like the old Monty i knew. Even the vet was upset and she said that she had grown very attached to him as she frequently saw him for check ups of his asthma.

I had to have my cat Monty put to sleep today as he had been diagnosed with a brain tumour a couple of weeks ago at approximately 12 years old. The vet had said he may have 6 months but he took a turn for the worse this morning and i could tell when i looked into his eyes that the time had come. He had had a terrible life with his previous owners before i took him on and i only got to have 2 and a half years with him although i will treasure every day.

To my dearest Monty, words cannot express how much i miss you now you are gone. I would have gone to the ends of the earth to find someone that could fix you but it just wasn`t possible. Everyone that saw you loved you and i know even the vet will miss you. I wish i could have had you from a kitten and i hate to think that before you came into my life you were with people that couldn`t see how special you were. Thank god for Tara who managed to persuade them to give you up so that you could start a new a better life with me. I know i had no other choice today but the pain of losing you is so hard to take. I will always remember you and your lovely ways. I am pleased that i could help you when you needed me most and hope that you are at peace now with Ralph and all the other little ones that play at the bridge. You were always so brave, even right up to the end. I would give anything to have you back here but i know that you have gone to a better place free from hurt and pain. I hope that one day we will meet again.  Love you my precious little man. You will live on in my heart every day. Sweet dreams x
