if they have the mother cat are they getting them spayed so it cant happen again?
Whenever we take in kittens I give a free voucher to have mum spayed and ask if they have any more cats or are keeping a kitten I then send another voucher when the kitten is 6 months old.
Only yesterday we took in a female that was unwanted, Sue phoned me last night and it is heavily pregnant.
I received an e-mail from someone who used to go on CC about someone she had met who did not want their cats due to a child having asthma. To cut a long story short she sent me a contact name, address and phone number. (it is within 500 yards of my home and on the same road as one of my sisters.). She wrote 'I can't give the family members name as they wish to remain anonymous. (To be honest, I'd prefer it too.') I phoned them and said I understand that you have a friend who has cats they do not want to keep. The woman said they are my cats, so what all the anonymous was about I do not know. Anyway there is a 5 year old Molly and a 1 year old Felix. I said I would put them on the list of cats waiting to come in. I asked if they had been neutered/spayed. Oh! no came the answer. So to cut another long story short they are both being 'done' a week on Monday at our expense of course. They can't be ‘done’ before as the family are going on holiday on Saturday. I was then informed that only Felix was to come in. As they want to keep Molly. Perhaps it is only Felix who is causing the asthma
. Within a couple of minutes of putting the phone down Donna phoned to say I have found out where the kitten (the one that was taken to her house at 7.30 am a few days ago because it was unwanted) She said the name and name of Road and said I have a telephone number. I said don't tell me the number let me guess, I then gave the number of the person who I had just been speaking to. Donna thought I was Physic. Yes that's right it was the same woman with Molly and Felix.
Maybe the shortage of kittens is showing a change of the times?
We have that many mums and kittens and also pregnant cats we just do not know which way to turn. Only yesterday I received so many calls for help with mums and babies in gardens etc, It is just impossible to bring them all in immediately. All I can do is offer advice and support until we can help. The problem is also many of the calls were from areas where there is no rescue cover, but once I know about a situation I feel I must do something.
