Because she wasnt living with me, I feel a bit detached from her death - of course I feel sad, but I'd have been heartborken if she'd already come to live with me and suddenly died like that. I just feel really angry that an old girl like that had to fend for herself all those months - what is wrong with people who can just up and leave a cat that way? I'll never understand it.  >:(

Poor little girl.

Well like you said Gillian. She was safe, warm and well fed at the end -

RIP Winona

About a month or so ago, my vet took in a little blue colourpoint persian girll from cat protection. Little 'Winona' or 'Nonnie', as she'd been named, was found wandering in one of the RAF roads at Lyneham near me, she'd been wandering for some time apparently, neighbours had been putting food out for her. They think that her family just up and moved and left her. Finally she was bought to my vet who had to shave all her fur off because it was so badly matted, she only weighed about 2 kilos.

Anyway, my vet knowing my love of colourpoints, casually showed her to me - hmmm! and of course I said I'd take her on. Cat protection agreed, but first she had to have blood tests and so she stayed at my vets for a while with a vew to me taking her on. My vet lives above the surgery, so Nonnie kind of moved in and seemed quite happy sauntering around the waiting room and shouting loudly whenever she wanted feeding! then taking herself off upstairs to her 'special' bed - in fact each time I saw her I had a feeling that she looked really settled there and It probably wouldnt be fair to move her again to come and live with me, but I would have still been happy to take her on.

Well, I've just had a phonecall from my vet to say that Nonnie had died this morning, she thinks prob heart attack. Poor liittle girl, all that time wandering the streets (months apparently), when she should have been spending her time in a cosy home - to die, when she had finally found a little comfort. At least she DID have that last few weeks, being fed well and getting lots of love and attention.  :RIP: Winona
