WE ARE URGENTLY SEARCHING FOR A LITTER OF KITTENS AFTER THEIR MOTHER WAS HIT BY A CAR YESTERDAY ON PLUMSTEAD COMMON ROAD, LONDON SE18.
We were called out to rescue the long haired black cat after she was seen being hit by a car and then ran under a parked car yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 2nd March).
She was hit on Plumstead Common Road SE18 , close to the crossroads with Herbert Road and Sandy Hill Road. She ran from Herbert Place into the traffic and was under a car on the forecourt of the RCCG Victory Centre.
Sadly she died of her injuries shortly after arrival at our Lewisham Branch veterinary clinic. To add to the tragedy we discovered that she had milk. Four nipples had clearly recently been suckled so she has four kittens somewhere.
Our rescue staff returned yesterday afternoon and have put up notices everywhere appealing for anyone who has lost a long- haired black female or was feeding her to contact us.
We think that she may have been a stray / feral cat. Our rescue team had neutered three, six month old feral kittens in a nearby garden just over a month ago. Their mother, a long haired black cat was missing at the time, we have contacted them again but she hadn't returned to them with a new litter.
We are asking people in the area to please check their sheds inside, underneath, and behind and their gardens generally, and to listen carefully, hungry kittens make a very high pitch squeaking cry when they call for their mum.
We don't know how old the kittens are but a physical examination by a vet suggests that they are at least 2 weeks old and based on how long the missing mother cat hadn't been seen for they could be 5 weeks old. Or she could be a completely different stray cat or someone's pet.
We desperately need to find these kittens.
