I hope he will adapt, but frankly, this was his last chance so I'm just ecstatic that the Shafiqs are willing to take him on, his only other option was a rescue cage or, God forbid, being abandoned again.

They can and do adapt I have ferals who have shown no interest in going back out as do a couple of the domestics they love life inside

Yes you are right about him going back but once a cat that goes outside age doent stop them wanting too!

Kocka was 19 when we moved but her urge to go out never stopped despite her being quite ill. We went on holiday to Devon a month before and she went out most days over Chrissy and New Year on a lead!

I think it was the happiest she had been for ages.

I think he'll be just fine indoors, but the Shafiqs only live 100 yards from his old home so if he is let out too soon he'll just keep going back there. If they keep him indoors for the summer it's feasible he'll be allowed out once he's attached himself to the family, and Elaine will stop providing food so he should learn where his bread is buttered.

At 17/18 years old, though I think he'll adapt very happily to the indoor life

Congrats on your efforts Sheila

It was a big ask of Mr & Mrs S at JJ's age but everything crossed that all goes to plan on their return from hols.

Hopefully this pic will upload OK. You asked ages ago but better late than never. He looks astonishingly clean for a boy living rough

Well it seems Mrs Shafiq has come through

JayJay will be going to the Shafiqs at the end of this month. when they get back from their hols

I'm utterly delighted, they are such gentle, generous folk and although Mister Jay Jay has limited stay left this side of the Bridge they have discussed his needs and decided he will be an indoor cat from now on, and has a new sister (also B&W) to look forward to.

I'm raising a glass tonight, to good neighbours, selfless generosity and a little tiny bit of brass neck from your loyal servant.

Fingers crossed, he's not quite there yet but I've changed the title of this thread with an optimistic heart

If my attempts here fail I'll take you up on that, Pav, thank you. Ive asked one of the locals if he would consider giving JayJay a home, as I know he is looking for a cat, but he has a young son who really needs a younger cat with some longevity, but they're thinking it through over the weekend.

Her BF is in Brighton so she's already spending a lot of her time there, she's hoping to move permanently next year so he's ok for now, so he's not an emergency case, but it's my opinion that he needs to be seen by a vet for his potential HT issues sooner rather than later.

If I get the chance next week to pop him in for blood tests I will, but I've got quite a lot on myself at the moment, not to mention a possible transport run next Monday

I'm astonished as to his lively nature, great teeth and energy, but Elaine has lived next door for 20 years and remembers this cat being there for the majority of her occupancy, so I've no reason to doubt. Some folk just look great when they're old I guess
