Thank you all so much for your advice. The little monkey just strolled in at 9pm as though nothing had happened. I hope he enjoyed his 14 hour stroll as he's now grounded! x

I don't know what I'd do if that happened to one of my kitties,  :scared:
Fingers and toes crossed that you find him soon.
Poor little man.

I know this is very worrying but take heart. This has happened to me on more than one occasion and the cat has always found its way back. One of mine that escaped on the first day was away for three days. He had been seen at the bottom of my neighbours garden but wouldn't come to me. I went to the trouble of borrowing a trap from a rescue and was just setting it up when he calmly walked right passed me and into the house. He will likely be exploring his new territory. Put food out and the carrier he came in with blanket with his smell on it outside the door.

Thanks, we've turned the house upside down. I think my 3 yr old has opened the back door to let our other cat out and he's gone :(

Hopefully he hadn't had breakfast before he went missing as he will hide longer if he has a full belly.

As he only went missing this morning, I would concentrate a couple of hours on inside house again.

Methodically search each room inc up any open chimneys and inside cupboards.  Look for tears in furniture that might allow access inside.  Close door to that room before moving on to the next.  Use a torch for any dark places as his eyes will show up if he is dark coloured ;)

As far as outside is concerned, this is a useful list of hints and tips.......

as kay says I doubt if he will have gone far he is probably hiding somewhere, maybe bushes or undergrowth if you have any about, maybe some smelly food outside might tempt him????

my Tosker escaped over my (supposedly) catproof fence on his very first night, and I was sure I would never find him, as he was petrified of me, and would never come to me

but luckily he took up residence in my neighbour's garage, and I was able to feed him and gradually lure him back in - and it is very possible your cat has not gone far, as he is in a strange neighbourhood

so I would alert all your neighbours, ask them if you can search any sheds, garages, etc, where a cat could hide out, and leave food out near your house - put it somewhere you can keep a lookout - don't worry if other cats come to feed, as yours may well be watching them and will see where they are getting food

you might need to be patient, but with the weather turning milder he will not come to any harm for a while if you can keep him nearby

Oh dear, poor you!

I guess the first thing is to double-check all possible hidey-holes inside, just in case he hasn't actually got out (unless you saw him go, of course). There is a list of things to do somewhere on this site - I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly.

Hi, we adopted an 18 month cat on Saturday and he's escape this morning. Ive been out looking for him, been shouting his name on and off since he went at 7 ish but no sign. I'm really worried, he's such a friendly cat I'm scared someone will take him in or he won't find his way back home :(
