One good way to hold a cat when giving meds on your own is to kneel on the floor, knees apart, wedging the cat between your thighs, with the cat facing away from you. This leaves you free to lift the cat's neck (with a tickle) and open mouth to pop in the pill. This only fails if you have a cat (like Samantha) who lifts her paws up to scratch your hands.
In her case, I creep upon her when she's sleeping, pop the pill in her mouth far back enough to stimulate the swallow reflex, then watch as she gives me a filthy look!
Also, I would never cut their claws as close as in the vid. It helps if you train a cat for claw-trimming by gently rubbing the pads of their paws while their relaxing on your lap. This makes them associate you messing with their paws with a pleasant experience. (Polly still fidgets when I trim her claws, though!)
