To think I might not see those eyes, makes it so hard not to cry, and as we say our long goodbyes, I nearly do.

The Proot walked into our lives in June 2006, just after we moved into the area.  He came in, calmly inspected every room and walked back out to continue sleeping outside.  Over the next few weeks he spent more and more time with us, coming in for his favourite treats of ham and cheese and sleeping in a box in the garden.  We hoped he was stray so we could keep him, but it turned out he lived down the road…...

But, the Proot had different ideas about who he should be living with and over time slept in our house, shared my pillow, purring and purring, and waking us up in the morning by saying “Prooooot” in our ears and washing our foreheads for us.  The Proot was very considerate like that.  He also waited at our front door each evening, saying “Mrrrow!” very loudly if we didn’t see him.  You could hear him from about 10 houses away!

He’d curl up on our knees while we were on the computer, and one of his favourite places was in front of the keyboard (and sometimes underneath it, if we really needed to type something – he wouldn’t move!).  His lap skills were second to none, it didn’t matter how long you sat down for, or what position you were in, he would find your lap and sit there, thank you very much!

He eventually became our cat, and we were able to give him the treatment for his thyroid that he needed.  He learned how to use a tray at the ripe old age of 14. He enjoyed pouch, lap, pillow and purring, and dribbling on our knees when he was very happy, which was often.

He was an amenable, dignified, loving and very fabulous cat, who packed a lot of fun and love into the short time he was with us.

Sadly he went to the Bridge on 19/02/07.  He captured our hearts and then broke them when he had to leave.  RIP the Proot.
