I used to be a very keen full bore shooter and gun collector. I would regulary go to Bisley and other UK clubs up and down the country for target shooting events  . At the time I supported legally owned hand guns being retained for target shooting only .

Now many years on I have completly changed my view on this. I think the only people likely to want to use airguns are youths and children who seem to only want to use them for shooting wildlife birds and pets . I cannot see any justifable reason why anyone should need an airgun that shoots hard pellets or ball bearings as there are many good alternatives available today including plastic or soft pellets and non firing laser guns .

There is a maybe a case for them to be kept by sportpeople perhaps  but the guns can be kept at clubs and don't have to be kept at home.

I support this petition 100%

I have been asked to put this up and think it will have some support here  ;D

PLEASE HELP US WITH OUR PETITION FOR GREATER CONTROL OF AIR RIFLES.   IN THE WRONG HANDS, THESE ARE LETHAL WEAPONS!

A cause of great concern to us for many years has been the number of animals (and people too) injured or killed by airguns.   One recent case of a lady we knew in St. Peter’s who had her beloved cat killed by one of these weapons has prompted us to start up a petition on the Downing Street website to have these and similar weapons controlled more closely – and banned totally for the under 21s.     Since then, there has been another report in the local press of an injured cat, with a pellet very close to its spine.  If you have access to a computer, PLEASE sign up and forward the petition to as many people as you can.   In view of the rise in gun crime generally, there can be no excuse for these weapons which can be owned by children as young as 14, and we can all guess at the implications of a 14 year old having a gun!!!!
