Angie is right to be concerned. I`ve had sucess in homing this week with 4 fosters going to super new homes, one being William the wobbly youngster who has to be kept indoors. However, things have been slow up to now with me. I know Judith is busy as usual, even cute kittens are not being offered homes.

Anyone for Dave aka "Dangerous Dave" and his sister Tiger-Lily? 12 weeks old, handreared and the friendliest purriest pair this side of the Channel?  The poor dog is being batted on the nose by Dave almost hourly!

We are starting to pick up now as people come back from their holidays. Although we have 7 cat families due back from their foster homes this weekend (.. and we only have 20 pens in total)

There was a survey once that measured how likely people where to give a cat back that they had adopted from a rescue. 2 factors made a difference. How much they spent on the adoption donation and how realistic where their expectations of cat 'ownership' (usually down to whether they had had a cat before). Lower adoption fee = more people getting cats without thinking about it and more returns. Without consiously thinking they are doing it, some people put more effort into something they have invested more money into...do realise that this isn't everone. most of the cats ruling my house walked into my life without demanding payment and i wouldn't be without them (except perhaps at 5am in the morning).
:) Please text CATS22 £5 to 70070 to feed a cat for a week :)

How on earth can you have a summer sale on little lives

Placing the cat/kitten with the right people is what is important; I would sooner have my rescues in care a little longer and be sure everything is purrr fect as I am sure most would.

Angie just think how many lives have been saved and wonderful homes found since you began this thread a year ago; There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.Chin up and keep strong

I was going to start a new thread but remembered this one from last year. Same sad story this year. Really slow at the moment. Everyone stuffed to the rafters again.
Local CP wrote a letter to the local rag last night to say they were dropping their adoption to fee to £40 to try and get things moving. We do not intend (at this moment!) to do the same as 1) we can't afford to, vets bills have been stupid high this year b) not sure its the right thing to do to have a 'summer sale', if the adoption fee is such an issue then what will happen when it comes to vets bills etc and 3) can't see it making a lot of difference to homing rates anyway when there are so many FTGH's around!

July/August is slow - are your rates slow and are you trying to do anything about it?

Same here too as you know Angie

Tabitha, the mummy of my 4 CovCat foster kittens went back home yesterday having been spayed. Two of the little ones going to new homes on Friday, which made me -3 briefly -

Lois, the one we took in 2 weeks ago when her owner died and she was left on the street with his other (male) cat by the relatives has just given birth to 6 this morning!!!!

She`s doing well, but this is getting beyond a joke. Makes me +3!

Most of the rescues in our area all seem to be homing. We have visited three and they seem to be snapped up which is good but disappointing if you are looking!! Litterally the RSPCA we went to have pens full of homevisit cats and a couple of cats that need to be sole cats. So it was positive that people do seem to be homing.

Our vets bills are scary too :scared: . We have 13 kittens aged 3-7 wks, 4 aged 4 mths (black + b/w so they ain't going anywhere soon and will need neutering), 16 young adults, 3 ferals who can't make up their minds if they're going to be feral or tame and 3 oldies in permanent care.  They all need feeding and medicating and we haven't had a single homing enquiry for nearly 2 weeks.  I had to turn 8 away yesterday alone.  We also do a lot of village fetes at this time of year to raise funds and profile but even they have been less profitable or are washed out altogether!

its the same every where, ten kittens and about 40 cats in total and 2 mums waiting to drop, and still the phones keep ringing with cats wanting to come in, and things are really getting bad with the food running out people cant afford to put food in our food basket in the stores, so every pennies count at the moment, just paid last months vet bill nearly £2ooo cant keep up with what the vets costing its all beginning to frighten us :scared:

We're not homing either  :( We have 60 cats and kittens in at the moment, all with fosterers (we've got 10 fosterers including me) I've got 5 adults, one of which I've had here since Feb  :( Think we only rehomed 1 in June, don't know what the numbers for July are yet, we do an audit at the end of each month, but I kow from our coordinator that we are just not getting the enquiries to home cats - only calls for more cats to come in, but we are really all full to brim now.

... and we are full up. ....

Have you read that Judith!
Nicky just emailed me  :she did it:  :busted:

adults - 28 one of which is ready to pop.....
kittens past sell bys - 7 (ie about 4 months old)
kittens ready to home (or near enough!) 27
babies - 7
Oldies - 12

 :white flag:

Sorry Judith, I did shop us to Angie the other night!

But on the plus side, 3 semi-ferels homed a few weeks ago after 11 months.

Hopefully things will pick up when the hols come to an end. I just cannot believe my little Harry is still looking, very cute at 15 weeks old. Not even a very fetching picture of him with the dog has done the trick.

We were the same until about a week or two ago when we managed to virtually empty the pens (in time for the next batch of hungry mouths of course...). Nothing for ages and then suddenly a shelter full of new faces. It's soul destroying going up there and watching the kittens growing up in a cage rather than playing with a loving family.

Hopefully people will be coming back from holidays and wanting to welcome a new furry family mamber soon x

Traditionally July is a bad time for rehoming and rescues bursting at the seams, holiday time is just around the corner so few people are going to take on a new pet; dont despair ladies the homes will come.
We havent homed for ages and I was so despondent but yesterday we homed 3 pairs, guess what I am trying to say is there is always light at the end of the tunnel

Things are really bad in Gateshead too Angie, last month was our first with no homings at all and this month doesn't look much better :( We have quite a few kittens not ready to go yet and our adult spaces are full including one single and one pair of FIV+. From what we hear it's really bad all over. Hope you get some good homes soon

Anyone homing at the moment?
« Reply #1 on: July 17, 2011, 14:01:26 PM »
homing is very slow here and we are full up. Koschka gave birth yesterday to 7 kittens and not counting those we have -

adults - 26
kittens past sell bys - 7 (ie about 4 months old)
kittens ready to home (or near enough!) 27

This does not include Brenda's two as they have homes lined up (hopefully!) or the mums due to go back somewhere.

Jill is also stuffed, currently running with about 12 oldies.

Any good homes in the Coventry area anyone??
