I had 99% decided that Pickles was going to stay with me - I have been using Feliway diffusers which have calmed things greatly with my cats. I had him microchipped and have let him into the garden as he has been used to 24/7 access to outside. He has been fine with this and is happy to potter about whilst I am there.

His behaviour however is a little unpredictable (he has never bitten but will go to nip) and I think long term he would be better in a adult only home. I have two children and he head butts them and is fine most of the time. They know not to approach him and all contact is on his terms. I have to be honest though and say that I am wary of him with them.

Can anyone help?

In all other respects he is lovely and a huge character but is very used to having his own way

Pickles has been with me almost four months now and is still looking

Is there anyone out there with a good sturdy pair of knees (he takes flying leaps onto your lap - and he is no feather

), who is happy to be coated more or less constantly with white Pickles' fuzz whilst listening to his extensive range of chirps, squeaks and yodelly miaows - even while he eats?!

He is such a lovely cat with a huge purrrsonality

They had lost - and I quote - "four or five" (they were not sure) cats to the road outside. I soon realised that the location was enough for it to be a no but I went in to be polite.

Their 16 old cat (which they had told me about) had also been previously hit by a car (not mentioned) which had "taught" her to stay away from the road.

It was all downhill from there really - it didn't help that her (adult) son was stroking Pickles then shaking his hands in a horrified manner to remove the hairs.

The worrying part is that she sounded absolutely fine on the phone, with no mention of any of the above.

What a shame, still you have to be sure that the little ones are getting the best possible chance, don't you? I would rather keep a cat longer and be sure than home and always have a gut feeling that something is not right.

Would also mention that Pickles will only be rehomed as an indoor cat or, if he is to have outside access, well away from main roads.

awwwww i see what u mean and u have to always put ya own cats needs first i know , id b a useless fosterer too , i get very attached after a very short while for example when i found max 2mths ago after about 12hrs of him being here i was already growing very fond fo him and i knew id b heartbroken if anyone had come forward to claim him ,thankfully they didnt and now he is all mineeeeeeeeeeee

Well he only ever came on a temporary basis after his owner died - I am a useless fosterer though and get very attached! Pickles is such a good boy but would be too much for my cats if he stayed permanently. I have two female cats and a male Persian (all neutered). Rosie is blind due to untreated cat flu in her previous home and I feel it would be unfair for her to have to share her home with another puss. Darcy (Persian) is a very very placid cat but is a little worried about Pickles' presence. (They are kept apart).

I so wish his owner had made provision for Pickles in her Will as she clearly loved him - sadly she just assumed that he would be easy to rehome.

Any of the cats that are rehomed via me, the condition is they don't mind staying in touch plus the home check etc will be done by you anyway so I'm sure you'll be able to sort something out

My children have always known that he is only with us until he finds a new home - and that he will be happier where he can have more attention and not compete with three other cats for fuss. My youngest son does say I have to check that Pickles is happy wherever he goes to and I have promised that of course I will - hopefully any new owner will not mind staying in touch

Just to update this - Pickles was rehomed for all of one night. He was fine but the resident (cat friendly) dog was for some reason terrified of him and it was decided it was better all round for him to return to me.

Unfortunately there is no love lost between my own cats and Pickles and it is becoming more difficult keeping them apart. My children are very attached to him (my youngest - aged 6 - made him a Valentine card headed "to lovely Picks"

) and he is really is a sweetheart - he is however a very confident cat and would prefer a household where he could have plenty of attention. He is better with female cats than males and I am going to be massively unpopular in the eyes of my children when his forever home does come along!!

My own three cats are indoor only and Pickles has been kept inside since being with me. He is fond of his home comforts and has shown no sign of missing the great outdoors!

Do Pickles hunt at all? My Mum lives in North Wales and may be after a cat to keep her company.. she's terrified of mice though so was looking for an indoor cat really, but would probalby be with an outdoor boy as long as they didn't bring live presents home!

It is becoming more and more difficult to keep Pickles apart from my cats

Bless him, the only enquiry about him was from a lady who asked whether he was destructive in the house as she had new carpets down and her husband was not actually keen on cats in any event.

I have advertised him locally in veterinary surgeries but any ideas would be very welcome.

He is a real character but as I have said will nip when he sees fit. He is not at all nasty just a bit...bossy I suppose!!

Sadly there has been no real interest at all in Pickles

He will need an experienced owner as he will turn and nip if not getting quite enough attention (i.e. 110%!!!). He is a lovely cat though, a real character and will blossom with a sensible owner! He cannot be homed with children.

I think he would be fine with another placid cat - he is kept apart from mine but has seen them briefly and showed no reaction.

I would be so happy to see him settled.

All local rescues are full - Pickles' owner sadly assumed that he would be easy to rehome when she passed away. Some of her relatives spent an afternoon ringing around without success which is why I offered to take him temporarily.
