Vets and prescriptions

I discussed with my vets btw and they said I can have a prescription but it will only benefit me next time as it will cost me £16.95 for Peps inbetween one.  The next one will be £9 for each of them when they both have consultation (wish they'd explained this when I originally asked).  But from what I can gather will only get the prescription until next consultation (which also cost just short of £30 per cat) so will be cheaper than 15% originally offered us as the meds are half price online, but still expensive, not worked out the exact saving as yet.

   I was going to post but just not got round to it yet    but I will post a photo soon.   Anyway I noticed this little girl at a local rescue, she'd been there a few months a little elderly, black girl (yet finally got another black puss  .  We went to see her but was busy with other stuff at the time.  Then once things were sorted I checked and she was still waiting a home so we decided to adopt her.  We've no idea of her age, she's pretty healthy, and active when she's awake but does sleep a lot, she's just a quiet little thing really and keeps herself to herself.  She has some odd quirks though she doesn't meow she sort of bleats like a lamb well I can't work out whether it's that or she's laughing    she also sleeps in some odd places, just found her sleeping in 2 beds! she had her back legs and half body in a doughnut bed but her head and front legs in the igloo.  She was handed in as a kitten but they found she wasn't young she's hyperthyroid and just small.  For a really small cat she can't half stretch though she looks soooo long.

Hi thanks  I've been having a google online and will get back in touch with my vets as it does look like it's half price online.  It's for Vidalta, we've just adopted another on Vidalta so it's costing a fortune  obviously they have regular checks but to be paying twice what it costs online does seem a lot.  Pep's alone are about £80 for 100 tablets, so last about 7wks.

My vets charge £7.50 vat inc and they put two boxes of stronghold on for me, both 6 packs but they can also put on items x times repeat.

If its something that they will need to see that cat for you will also have to pay that fee too.

The vet can now charge what they like for issuing a prescription (a few years ago they were free). Just had a look on my vets website and they charge £7.66 per medication item. Worth asking for a three month or six month supply to make it cost effective. When I used to get them for Tiggy I asked for a repeat prescription so it had one months supply but the vet wrote that it could be repeated twice so effectively three months worth.

Alternatively you could ask for three months worth eg 90 tablets and then some online pharmacies will hold the prescription and dispense part of it eg you buy 30 pills and they hold the prescription and allow you to order another 30 the next month and another 30 the month after that. Or of course you could just buty all 90 tabs at once.

Can my vet refuse to issue a prescription?

Your vet cannot refuse to issue a written prescription for a medicine they would otherwise be happy to dispense themselves.  A recent government report has recommended that vets write prescriptions as a matter of course for treating animals. It is also in the vets’ professional code of conduct that they should not reasonably refuse to issue one at the request of a client.

Soz, meant to edit that but yep if you ask.  I have asked my vet but was offered a a small % off instead although I've been looking online and it works out much cheaper to buy online, roughly half price for Vidalta.  How much does the actual presciption cost and can they not refuse that then if you ask?

I don't think many would 'offer' but they can't refuse if you ask them - as Dawn says they will charge for issuing the prescription though and they will also, quite rightly, insist on regular check ups.

Just wondering but does anyone's vets offer prescriptions for you to buy your cat's meds online?  I'm sure I've heard some vets will do that.
