I have a lot of birds and two cats (plus the 5 kid )
some birds can actually train a kitten so to speak so they get along in unison, ours havent managed such harmony im afraid but they do live side by side ok. The cats do try their luck occasionally and like to sit next to cage lickin their lips :innocent:, but im just carefull that if we get the birds out that the cats are outside or upstairs etc so the birds have their time too.
none of our birds are actually scared of the cats but i wouldnt trust the cats not to try to attack the birds as they love catching things in the garden so im sure given the chance they would.
it doesnt cause any concern to me other than that though, the birds are happy and Miyagi and Georgia have a lot to occupy them anyway, i have notice they show little interest at all now in the birds since they have discovered the garden so im sure that excercising their hunting skills outside has kept them from focusing so much on the birds thankfully.
i know on you tube you see cats and cockatiels getting along fine, personally its not something i would risk as birds bleed to death very rabidly so even a playfull nip from a kitten could result in death of a pet bird.
I wouldnt not have the cats though because i have birds..so long as they have a safe space ( i dont allow my purballs to stay in with our birds unsupervised as couldnt risk what they may get up to although to be fair they cant actually get paws into the cage whilst the lovebirds could easily nip the cats :-:

I had ferrets share my home too for a number of years; my partner always told the cats they were "cats that had been naughty so they'd been stretched." We're an odd pair. ;)

Think they're adorable though. See, now I KNOW cats and ferrets work. ;)

We have a parrot (yellow thighed caique) who lives with cats  :Luv:  I obviously never leave them unsupervised but they really don't bother at all - whilst they will watch birds out of the window (and Darcy Persian loves Springwatch  :evillaugh:) they have never shown any interest in Zak at all.   He does talk so not sure if that helps!!  (My favourite, on his first sighting of a ferret was "whassat??")

My mates have an African Grey Parrot and 2 cats (both elderly).  When they first got Dave the cats would look and jump up on the chair to get a better look but never tried to jump up.  They let Dave out when Samantha and George are there and nothing happens but they never leave them alone apart from 2 minutes to the kitchen or loo.

I have a Cockateil and 2 cats My cockateil does seem to prefer to have the top of his cage covered and the cats like to sleep on it
I do not allow the cats in the same room as the bird unattended well not for long periods i.e. overnight

I used to have 2 agapornids and 2 cats, and the cats were afraid of the birds.
If they came too close to the birdcage, they would get their tails or p[aws bitten.
You do have to lock the cats out in order to have the birds fly loosse, though....

We used to have two budgies with our cats when I lived at home. Never any problems but obviously took proper precautions (i.e. if the birds were having a fly, the cats would not be in that room) :)

If so, how do you manage? A friend of mine would love to take on a kitten or two but has a cockatiel and is concerned about the obvious issues....
