Neutering Fella

Awww bless them. I suppose it is a smaller op than with females. Ella has been left with a terrible hangy stomach after she was done. (although she is still by beautiful baby anyway!)

i believe its nicknamed a spay sway! sparecat has one too. Vet said that it is fat but not bad fat and i think is  something to do with the lowered hormones. sparecats was quite noticable but has recently tightened up is very small now- dont know whether thats due to time,diet exercise or just how she is.

You also need to know that the hormones take a while to die down after the op. can be 6 weeks I read.

if hes done early enough (i.e at 5-6months) they wont have had time to really kick in  so the earlier the better.None of mine have ever been fussed about it- my own 2 boys i swear didnt notice at all, the younger fosters have been abit fazed but i would guess more from the GA than any actual discomfort. the older fosters can be abit tentative when sitting for a few hours but they forget all about it once theyve had a sleep 

The op itself apparently takes minutes and involves a very small incision which is glued after so no stitches required. standard GA instructions will be to withhold food and water from set times (you will be advised) and to offer small light meals after- theyre quite often very hungry after. He will also require plenty of cuddles and treats 

if not the top one its certainly amongst the top things you can do to improve your cats quality of life, for life. so dont feel guilty,  Fella wont even know whats happened and if he did, hed probably shrug- theyre not as attached to their bits as human men!

I just had Lupin neutered, he should have been done by previous owner at 6 months but he is 11 months nearly now.

We always worry when we take our cats to the vets for ops. It makes us feel cruel but we have to be cruel to be kind x

Yeah, I am definatley getting him done and I would do if he was going to be an indoor cat too as from what I have read he will be a much happier boy I will arrange the appointment when I take him for his jabs on the 26th

It does depend on the vet. We took Archie for his jabs and they said 5-6 months. Just before our holiday we took him back to check and to be chipped and they said he was slightly too young. When Ella was poorly last week we took Archie with us and asked how he was doing in....erm... well, that area. He is booked for then 27th.

Whether Fella  is indoor or outdoor he should be done for his own health and happiness. When we become cat owneers we have a responisbility. You wouldn't consider not feeding your cat and not neutering is the same for me.

Get him done xx

I think younger vets do neuter earlier, mine is a bit old school be even he says if you can grab em you can taken them off!

my vet says it is possible to neuter from 12 weeks but it depends on their size, he waits for the smaller ones to be abit older, but he does neuter ferals and strays for the CPL so i don't know if all vets will do that.

please don't feel guilty without raging hormones he will be happy and content.  An entire male has only sex on his mind and taking that urge away will give him a much happier life

its such a tiny op he will be fine

about 5 - 6 months old.
He will feel very little, probably just want to be fed when he gets back and as you say, there are so many health benefits to getting him neutered.
Also it will stop him turning into a smelly tom cat which is a bonus! I don't know how people can live with entire toms as they smell so much!

Hi all,
Another basic question, not sure if I have posted in the right place or not  I have read about and understood the importance of getting Fella neutered, and I was just wondering at what age this will be done, there is no way I will let him outdoors until he has been done as I dont want him getting FIV or getting into fights with other male cats etc will it be painful for him? Will I need to give him any special care after the op?

I will feel very guilty for doing it, but it has to be done
