Awwwwww, bless  :Luv: I bet she'll turn into the softest little puss.  That usually happens, I love difficult case cats they're so rewarding, it's usually some issue and once they trust they change dramatically.

Our Peppy didn't do laps for months he didn't have issues he's always been loving just slow at coming forward and I suppose because of his lack of senses there was some reluctance but now he's a proper lap cat.

What a sweetie, she's really coming along!

I remember the first time Bass sat on my lap - she was still really shy and wouldn't come near us much.

A first today....Dillen is happy to have fuss on her own terms and gives good signals to Andrea when she's not up for cuddles. But this is the first time she's ever settled on her lap! :Luv:

That little cat knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats!

 :Luv:

Maybe she's just an attention hog. ;) Someone mentioned the weight gain could be to do with fluid build up because of her liver so I've forwarded the info to Andrea. I think having all the info is important in a situation like this. Let's hope not though.

Best update EVER:

I was about to message you. This insulin must be kicking in... somehow over the last 2 days (since vets Friday) she has gained a considerable amount of weight! Can still feel spine but only if you put pressure down when stroking her, where as before just gently resting a hand on her you could feel every bone including pelvic one. She is becoming stronger again too and can now jump back up on the kitchen side!

They started a new batch of insulin this week. I assume it means a different type too, because I wasn't specifically told that.

The vet is worried that if she doesn't improve this week, her quality of life is going to be suffering and I do understand what she's saying after discussing Dillens behaviour with Andrea.

Am still hoping - all you can do. She's such a brave girl.

It can be very tricky getting the insulin levels right, and can be an ongoing thing as they fluctuate with so many things.  I hope that the liver isn't an issue too though.  Poor little love I do think of her a lot and so hope that things work out for her she deserves some happiness.

Hasn't a different insulin been tried?  Some insulins just don't work on certain cats.  My vet told me that Caninsulin wouldn't be any good for Blackie, but HBPV is good for him.

Sending loads of vibes Dillen's way. xxxx

Oh dear, I hoped she was improving, poor little girl.

But she's fairly young, isn't she, and she's tough so I'm still hoping.

Sending lots of vibes (Drum & Bass send purrs and headbutts too).

OK, the most recent update. Sorry it's not great news people. :(

The vet is trying to stabilise Dillen but can't seem to get her readings below 20. And there's a noticeable issue with her liver. :( Andrea and the vet have decided the course of action fair to Dillen is to give her a week to see if they can get the readings to a safer level but they feel any longer and her quality of life is going to be compromised. Andrea said she's definitely acting overall more introverted and it's worrying her a great deal.

I need all the Purrs vibes available for this little girl.

I've been given three names of types used for cats. Hopefully one of  them will work.....Andrea informs me that Dillen jumped up on to the sofa and swiped a crisp out of her hand and ran off before she could grab her so to be honest, she must be having a pretty good day. ;)

I dont know but there are two types and did loads of searches and was hoping it was in that link.

If I remember right, one is a human one that can be used on cats and think that is the direct replacement for the one that was discontinued.

It's PZI - and it's discontinued. :( But someone has told me they now use one of the human types of insulin on cats. They're going to get back to me ASAP with the name. (Thanks Michelle.)

Most recent correspondence:

"Dillen hasn't responded to the insulin! The vet has orded a new batch in case it's that one and somebody shook it about a bit and will try again. She has given her something else via injection (can't remember name of it now) to help her through the next few days and is due back Friday for the day."

Please keep thinking of Dillen. Apparently she's lost a lot of weight and is very wobbly - I think they're having a lot of trouble stabilising her.

Can anyone remember the name of the other type of insulin used for cats?

I just wonder if her diabetes is right on borderline and the insulin is too strong, problem is eating or not can affect it both ways.

Could be, and the heat affects them too.  My diabetic boy Blackie doesn't like the heat much, but he still eats well.

I bet its diabetes related too and a change of temperature wont help.

I purrrrrsonally think its daft to try and regulate with food cos cats are so unpredicatable and the heat will often stop them eating but even with meds she will need to be regulated.

Sending best wishes to her

To be honest I'm totally assuming it diabetes related. They were trying very hard to balance things out purely with diet and with her health the way it is, I personally felt using the caninsulin straight away would be wiser. But I'm not a vet, so I could be wrong.

No update yet. Just bugged Andrea for one, I'll update as soon as I hear more.
