Please don't approve it. Is money really more important than animal welfare?

Signed, I also signed another one for the same cause doing the rounds on the Care2 site.

I watched the Panorama (I think) report on these "farms" and they are horrible places.

Thanks hunnies.

There are 72000 odd signatures now and more still needed. It would be awful for the UK to follow USA and have factory farming for our cows where they never go outside on natural grass  :'( :'( :'(  If this 1st mega dairy is allowed then others will follow  :'( :'( :'(

It's not only so cruel for the cow but also so damaging to our natural land.

Undercover investigation:The shocking cost of US 'mega-dairies.....
With planning permission for Britain's biggest dairy at Nocton about to be re-submitted, The Ecologist travels to California to examine intensive milk production - and finds factory farms, conflict, intimidation, pesticides, pollution and small-scale farmers driven out of business...
The cows face  a continual daily cycle that stops only when the milk output begins to tail off, and the animals are either re-impregnated or sent off to slaughter; burnt out and discarded after only a few years of life on the factory floor. Animals in American mega dairies will never see a patch of grass in their life, and the only respite comes from shade in the dusty open-air lots where they wait between milking. Even here the animals will not get a chance to really rest; high-milk yielding cows suffer from chronic ‘negative energy balance’, where the cow uses more energy in making milk that she can physically take in by eating, losing body condition as a result.

We have a massive petition to hand to the council today. Despite the Christmas break, we have passed 65,000 signatures! Now we need to back the petition up with individual messages to the council. Thousands of personal e-mails will prove just how strongly we feel. It will make sure that they feel under pressure from all sides.   Please click here to send a quick message to the council and help stop the UK's first cow factory farm:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/stop-the-cow-factory-farm

If the council gives the factory farm planning permission, the mega-dairy will be 30 times bigger than anything elsewhere in the UK. It could open the way for more mega-dairies popping up around the country. Now's our chance to stop that happening.

Our pressure is working. When our campaign forced one of the companies to pull out, thousands of us chipped in to expose the companies still backing the factory farm with adverts in the local paper. We've forced the companies behind the factory farm to scale back their plans. When they tried to sneak the application through over Christmas we moved fast to raise the alarm, and have a petition with over 65,000 signatures. If we work together, we can win and stop this factory farm altogether.

Now let's send thousands of personal e-mails to the council telling them to stop this factory farm - the deadline is this Tuesday evening:

Thanks for being involved,

Actually did know they were scaling back since November and had submitted new plans as was on Local news so they were doing nothing underhanded or sneakily and no company has pulled out.

We have just today days to stop the UK's first US-style cow factory farm being built. Our pressure is building, but the firms behind the farm are still pushing hard to get their plans rubber-stamped.

The deadline for the petition is the 11th January - on that day we need to present the local council with a sky-high pile of signatures! The more signatures we have, the more chance we have of stopping the mega-dairy. So let's spread the word and tell everyone we can to sign the petition now.

Please forward this e-mail to your friends and ask them to sign the petition to stop the Nocton mega-dairy here:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/cow-factory-farm

If we want to stop US-style factory farms being introduced to the UK, we need to make sure this planning application is rejected. If this mega-dairy goes ahead, it will be 30 times bigger than anything the UK has ever seen. It could open the floodgates for more cow factory farms across the country. [1]

Please forward this e-mail to your friends and ask them to help stop the mega-dairy by signing the petition at:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/cow-factory-farm

You could also tell your friends on Facebook:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/stop-the-factory-farm-facebook

Or tell your friends on Twitter here:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/stop-the-factory-farm-twitter

Factory farms like this are bad for cows, bad for climate change and bad for other farmers. The cows will be shut up indoors and not allowed to eat grass. Smaller family dairies in the area could be put out of business. Factory farms rely on imported feed, and often this feed is grown on land where rainforest has been chopped down. [2]

We know we make a difference when we speak out against cow factory farming. Our pressure has already persuaded one of the companies involved to drop out and forced the scheme to be scaled back for now. The firms behind the farm tried to sneak their plans in  just before Christmas, hoping no one would notice. But we did! Since then 20,000 more of us have signed the petition against the mega-dairy. Let's spread the word and stop the cow factory farm plan in its tracks.

Please forward this e-mail and ask your friends to help stop the mega-dairy by signing the petition here:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/cow-factory-farm

Thanks for being involved,

Hannah, David, Johnny and the 38 Degrees team
