Mosi won't eat his meals

Poot seems to be extra fussy as well right now, being really picky with his choice of wet food, and only eating it if I sprinkle some biscuits on the top

I was going to update to say that Mosi is eating all his meals, and most of them in the kitchen at the first time of asking too.  But we were back to silly ways yesterday when he decided he wouldn't go anywhere near his tea.  Eventually I picked off the biscuits and just left the meat down but I think Jaffa ate it in the end.   More silliness this morning but he ate it after a bit of persuasion.  Oh well, at least we had a couple of days when he ate everything up straight away.

both of mine have been turning fussy- both refused to eat their whiskers meat in gravy which they normally like- why? I presume its because they have both been getting a fair amount of chicken lately and obviously prefer that to the sachet food. the food in the bowl has had the gravy licked off only- everything else is untouched. I think if they didnt eat for 3 days i would suspect illness or something but i have noticed that they are getting a bit more tempermental with food whilst when i got them they were so excited over wet food and left the kibble. they used to eat any brand without fuss- i bought the wrong felix though as was giving them the more expensive felix one- i then picked up the standard felix in jelly which i thought they liked for some reason- it was after i bought it i realised that i had been buying the slightly better felix one . they looked at it like poison and upon studying it i didnt really blame them as it looked more like coloured bits of sponge than food and yes-they only ate the jelly
I cant say my cats are any different to the kids though- im pretty used to the distainfull glances of my offerings

I don't think it's a case of not liking the food and when he's in one of his moods he won't go near his food dish to see what's in it anyway.  He has eaten his supper although I did have to take it under the bed again for him.  Thought he was going to eat it in the kitchen because he came and started to and then he ran off so I followed him with it and placed it under the bed.  He ate the lot    So that's 2 out of 3 that he's eaten today with minimal fuss.  Let's hope this is the start of a good run.  He does go in cycles with it and will eat everything no problem for a few days and then start messing me about.  Perhaps he has read this thread and is worried I'm going to withdraw his dreamies.

How about mixing a few Dreamies in with his food? 

A while ago I bought what I thought was a pack of Whiskas weebox meat stick things. But when I opened it, it was like a soft meat paste stuff.  I put it on Bonnie's food and she loved it.  Maybe that would work?  Not quite sure what it's for as I never got around to reading the box

I have exactly the same problem as you with our Fred (including the playing and chasing being more fun) and I follow him around the house moving his eating places, change his feeding plates/bowls, allowing him to eat direct off the rug on the poof (forking small amounts out and waiting whilst he eats that and forking a little more).  I always sit next to him which also seems to help 

Yup - sounds familiar!

He's eaten all his tea tonight.  He made me give it to him under the bed but then he ate the lot.  First complete meal he's eaten in several days.  Little monkey.  When I got home the fire alarm people were servicing the panel in the corridor outside my flat so I knew he wouldn't be interested in food while there were noises and voices coming from the corridor so waited until they had gone.

I would agree with you Susanne that the 1st thing to try is to stop the treats but please don't tell him I said so ....

I'm not worried about him from a health point of view (yet) because I know he is just being annoying and isnt' ill, but he is driving me mad refusing to eat his meals at the moment.  Mosi has never really been into food.  By which I mean he never asks for food when meal time is approaching (unlike Jaffa who never lets me forget that meal time is imminent) but usually he eats it up when I put it down.  I say when I put it down because whilst he does sometimes eat in in the kitchen where it's put, he frequently runs rings around me and has me running all over the place carrying it and pleading with him to eat.  Eventually I usually get him to eat most of it.  He's also easily distracted - if there's a noise or he sees something move out of the corner of his eye, he'd much rather investigate that than eat his meals.  Case in point - this morning I was following him around trying to get him to eat his breakfast and he was almost ready to admit defeat and eat some hand fed pieces when he caught sight of my shadow reflected on the wall.  So off he went pouncing on the shadow and the moment passed.  He's more interested in running around and playing than eating.

Now I know he's playing me to a certain extent but he really does seem to be just disinterested in food.  If I just had Mosi it would be less of a problem as I'd just leave it down and let him eat what he wanted when he wanted.  I don't think he's a cat who would overeat.  However I can't do that as Jaffa is a greedy guts and would eat it.  I don't want Jaffa eating Mosi's food as Mosi has stuff like hi life essentials (too high in phosphorus for Jaffa) and some dry.  That also leaves Jaffa's food unattended so that if Mosi decides to eat something he would end up eating Jaffa's senior food - again not what I want.  I have toughened up lately and have had several meals where they've had the same so I've just put 2 bowls of whatever down and left them to it.  Mostly Mosi just leaves it and Jaffa ends up eating most of what is in both bowls (not always straight away but eventually).  My fail safe used to be to put it under the bed (one of his favourite places) and he would usually eat it there but now that isn't working and I'm actually starting to get a little worried that he's not getting enough food.  He's a slender cat under all that fluff to start with.   He is eating his dreamies no problem and I did wonder whether I should stop those to try and get him to eat his proper food but am actually grateful that he's getting some calories into him that way.

It's not a huge issue yet but it is becoming one - any ideas for how I can get him to eat?
