I actually don't believe in homeopathic remedies on the whole but he's prepared to try any tips or non-medical remedies just to stabilise her whilst the drugs leave her system. I know there are loads of things you can do for crf cats to help them out so I thought it might be the same for hyper t.

I'll get him on to the group. I still get emails from the crf one and it is useful if i'm ever faced with the evil illness again

thanks :)

Shoot me if ya like but I'm afraid I would be dead against trying homeopathy for such a very serious condition.

Thats why I recommended consulting with a homeopathic vet, rather than simply 'picking' a remedy.  :)

I too would recommend your friend joins yahoo feline-hyperT group.  I joined for a while a few years ago when Tom was "borderline" hyperT.  I found out quite a lot.

Main concern at that time seemed to be the high doses initially prescribed by vets across the UK.  I understand it is now recommended that doses start low and gradually increase to let the body get used to the medication.  I just wonder if the doses may have been too high, hence bad reaction?  Really just a thought, no more.  Felimazole is easier to give in small doses than Vidalta. I've not heard of Bercazol and can't find it listed in NOAH.

Shoot me if ya like but I'm afraid I would be dead against trying homeopathy for such a very serious condition.

Am sending best possible vibes for your friend's cat and every sympathy for your friend

thanks for the replies. the long-term part is in the hands of the vet but they just wondered if there was anything they could do for 2 weeks while she comes off the feli to stop her from going downhill

There is another tablet available called Vidalta - but do some research on it, some people don't like it !!

The cat could always go back for surgery and have the remaining part of the glads removed

Homeopathic remedies can be used, but your friend would need to consult a homeopathic vet, preferably on referral from her own vet, although I think she could approach a homeopathic vet independently if she wanted. There are several homeopathic remedies for hyperthryoidism, so thats why its important to have a proper consultation, to find just the right remedy or remedies, for your friend's cat.  You can see if there is a homeopathic vet in your area, just check on BAHVS website http://www.bahvs.com/index.html

Holistic Pet Supplies have alternative remedies, don't know if they have any that are suitable for hyper t or if they work but may be worth a look at their website.

I'm not very 'up on it' as it was a few years ago now that Tiggy was hyperthyroid but I don't remember anything other than the traditional medications being available. She also had CRF and there was lots of other avenues to explore for CRF but nothing extra for hyperthyroid.

It might be worth while your friend joining a yahoo group for feline hyperthyroid, I know the CRF one was extremely active and lots of suggestions as to other treatments available.

hi. my friend's cat is after a little help.

she has had hyper t for ages and had most of her thyroid gland removed.

symptoms came back and the vet put her on bercozol (not sure if that's the right name, it's not one I'm familiar with). she reacted badly so went on felimazole. she reacted badly to that too and ended up with sores on her head.

the next step is to try a human drug but she needs a couple of weeks for the feli to leave her system

so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other things to try, maybe homeopathic.

I'm on behalf of a friend so my info might not be 100%. he asked for my help so I'm calling upon you trusty lot!
