Darcy is a giant teddy bear! He's so placid. He 'kind of' tolerated the grooming process for 1hr! (there were a few growls..) Bless him, think i'd be a bit peeved too!  :evillaugh:

My mum says he's a big softie really!  :Luv2:

Hiya Pauline,

My mum has filled me in. Sounds and looks like a different cat!  ;D  Can't wait to see him..

She was thrilled with all the advice you gave her  ;)  I'm sure Darcy will be even happier now he's been to the hairdressers!  :evillaugh:

Why don't you just post him to Gillian by recorded delivery?  :sneaky:

because she knows she'd likely not get him back

Hayley, when I said don't shave, I meant not to shave routinely (as I know a lot of persian breeders/owners do), but if the coat is matted, shaving is sometimes the only option, sorry, didnt make that clear

Oh okay, well we will certainly have that as an option then, if she can't manage to de-knot his coat!

Thanks Gillian  ;)

Anyway, he is gorgeous  :Luv2: :Luv2:

He is rather isn't he??  :Luv2:

Anyway, he is gorgeous  :Luv2: :Luv2: If the coat isnt actually matted, but just very thick and lots of loose fur, I'd comb it out with a Mikki Matt Breaker - despite its name as a 'matt' breaker, it works better used like a comb and it will remove all the loose, dead fur. Finish off with a slicker brush to take off any surface loose fur. http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?CatId=1371&ParentId=525&ProdId=3392

You could try UK pets for groomers in your area http://ukpets.co.uk/ or phone round some of the local dog groomers and see if they do cats as well (make sure they have either 'cats only' days or a room for grooming cats that is completely away from the sight and sound of dogs. Or see if any local vets know a reputable cat groomer.

Here's a piccy of him. Not sure whether he's bad enough to warrant shaving, my mum has been advised against doing that  :-:

If he is very matted it might be worth getting the vet to shave him then she can start from fresh.

« Reply #1 on: October 17, 2010, 16:00:33 PM »
Hi all

My mum has recently rehomed a Persian (Mr Darcy) and his coat is a bit of a mess. I think she would benefit from having him professionally groomed so that it makes it easier for her to carry on and keep his coat in tip-top condition as she is knew to looking after such a high maintenance furry!  :sneaky:

Does anyone know of a good cat groomer in the Nottingham area??

Many thanks
Hayley  ;)
