A few might remember the Catpod from a few years ago. I emailed the designer. He had some interest from a manufactuer but it didn't come to anything. He said they are easy to make. I actually have one of those containers in the picture. I can't remember where I bought it though. I have a feeling it might have been Tschibo or Lidl.
http://www.gadgetspeak.com/gadget/article.rhtm/753/495190/Catpod_-_outdoor_cat_shelter.htmlETA - I am lying - the one I have is the one in this photo.
http://www.whitefurze.net/ - just pure coincidence. I just knew the name as I go out of my way to avoid Chinese things and I know Whitefurze is UK made (and well made
) - they sell a lot of their things in Wilkinsons - not sure about the storage boxes though.
ETA - This was his reply from November 2007 - it seems they never happened in the end - shame really. They would be great for strays & ferals especially.
"Hi Mark.
Many thanks for your email.
I came up with the catpod idea about a year ago for a pet company as a possible promotional item. I made five as samples using Contico storage boxes, 3 with flaps, and 2 without. The company was interested initially and was going to source a manufacturer to produce a custom moulded version which would hopefully have retailed between £10-20. This was about 6 months ago but I've heard nothing since. It's funny you should mention the Cat's Protection as I donated the last two catpod 2s to the St Helens branch (Chester Lane, Sutton Manor), only this morning. They up for sale if you want one!
I've had quite a lot of interest in the idea recently with several emails asking where they can buy them. I'm sorry, but I've none left now, all 5 samples have gone, but they are quite easy to make from a cheap plastic storage box you can buy from most homeware shops in the highstreet. With all the recent interest, I've been looking into possibly sourcing a local moulding company who may be interested in producing the product. You never know, I could be in luck and catpod could be on the market this coming year!
Many thanks again for your email. If I do manage to get the idea off the ground I shall email you back with the details.
Best wishes,
Jase"
