It's been a while since I had a kitten that needed litter training, and they were younger than Archie, I used to stand them in the litter tray and stroke their tummy to encourage them to go.

I've not had to do this either but I do know that some cats will not wee and poo in the same tray so if he only has the one that might be a factor.

Not something I've had to do either, even with the feral babies!! I think previous advice has been to keep the kitten confined to one room/area with a tray or two (with used litter for scent). This is in order to limit the places of opportunity. Any accidents, mop up with kitchen towel/newspaper and put that in the tray so they can associate the two. Or something like that anyway
