Lorraine sounds like you need some of  these.
I am useless on people problems but I think a trip to your GP for something to help with relaxation is a must and there are wonderful people on Purrs who unlike me do have good people skills and also understand how important our cats are to us that will be able to talk to you.

Can anyone suggest a good person that I could go to for counselling. I have never got over the loss of Cleo and what it has done is made me frantic for my 10 others. If I don't see them for a few hours I am outside searching and making myself ill with worry. Also, sometimes I hear screams in the field behind me and that drives me to a nervous breakdown with me frantically searching for mine to make sure they are all safe. (Obviously they have been). I am waking at 5am to check they are all around and am driving myself and everyone around me crazy. I am living in constant fear. They are all between 4 years and 15 months. Cleo's brother goes in and out and seems fine but I am really disturbed now and nothing seems to help.

Well My little Cleo is still missing. 9 long long weeks have gone by and I feel dead inside. Really ill with it now. I have re-postered, re-leafleted, searched and searched and nothing. I now think that either something has happened to her or someone has stolen her and the reason I say stolen is that I find it impossible to believe that with the extensive postering, leafletting and advertising that I have done someone would not know she belongs to me.  I feel so so sad.
I did use a dowser who seemed very nice but he said he could only find her in the brambly field behind my house. I did go and look preparing myself for the worst but found nothing.

Fingers crossed for you and Cleo...
Keep putting posters up and put them up in lots of places - one of my boys went walkabout a few years ago and he turned up after a few weeks much further away than we thought he could possibly have gone.  We hadn't put posters up that far away but fortunately the neighbour of the lady who had taken him in saw a poster when she went to get her hair cut and called us. He came back home safe and sound, just had a bit of a tantrum because he quite liked the new house he had found!

We all just want your baby home safe Lorraine. I know how much the forum helps when your baby is missing, and it makes no difference if you have one cat or fifty cats, it hurts just as much. Gill is right, if she got the skill involved to open that cat flap there is every possibility she will manage to find her way home. I'm not gonna say 20 days isn't much because it will be seeming like a lifetime to you. I am keeping everything crossed for you, and I hope if someone is taking care of her that they do the right thing so she comes flying back through that cat flap.

You are doing all the right things, and nobody can say you aren't trying. Let's hope You get some news from the newspaper ads.

Sending hugs and positive thoughts (and hugs to the rest of the kitty clan)

Just to say stay positive , 20 days is not that long in terms of some of the cats that have gone missing on Purrs and returned.

As has been said cats will head towards anywhere they can get food and if its nice and warm inside they may decide its easier to stay. They map their routes very well so as I type she could be heading back home.....I do hope so

Well Jenny - when I had my old lady cats and man cats  right from when they were babies they were indoor cats only and I never had any worries at all. They didn't want to go out even when I moved to a house, they were healthy right up until they got old.Not to bore you with details but my present husband has turned out to be a horrible person who only thinks of himself (it was a big mistake meeting him in the first place and decided without my permission to let them all out because he said that "cats should go out" (although he has never had cats). Over the last three years I have had constant worries with them going out. I can understand that the ferals want to go out and indeed Taters went missing last March for three and a half weeks and came back by himself. He installed a cat flap when I specifically said not to and then showed the cats how to tap the flap to open it (I had it set to coming in only) so of course Cleo being so clever picked up on this and that is how she started going out aged 7 months when I would never ever let a cat out before 1 year old anyway and preferably not let them out at all. I have had no more sightings reported and leafletted last week and also had an ad in two papers this week but nothing. I can't stop crying jenny and am so worried about her.

Thank you so much for your kindness

Wow! What a lovely big family  :Luv:
it sounds like you are a real cat lover and have a very big heart. Thanks for talking about them. I'd love to take on more cats one day, when I'm not a mature student and have the resources to have more kitties. I particularly love the fact that each and every one of your cats has it's own story about how you met and how they became a part of your family. And to drive to birmingham from London to pick up more cats in distress is incredibly admirable. I can see why you get so attached to all of them, and in some ways it's the not knowing where they are that hurts the most. Have you had any more sightings of Cleo? When did you last do your leaflets? It's good to keep reminding people to look. Do your other cats go outside? I'm trying to make my cat strictly a house cat, but she hates it!

Thank you for asking about my other kitties. About three years ago I still had my two lovely old lady cats and my old man cat when a feral cat turned up in our gardens pregnant. The lady who used to live next door managed to get her into the house where she gave birth and we adopted Tabitha who will be four this year. She is tabby and white and gorgeous. Not long after that we saw a tiny Siamese wandering in the field behind the garden and it soon became apparent he was feral and belonged to this same feral mum. There were also three other siblings. Once Bessie started to bring the kittens into our garden for food regularly we had them all trapped, Bessie was neutered and lives in next door neighbours garden and I socialised the four babies. The Siamese is called Pork Chop, Taters is big and fluffy black, Tina is small and black and unfortunately had such an eye infection when we trapped her that she had to have an eye removed and Flowa unfortunately died of FIP aged 14 months. A loss I have never really got over. These babies are now 2 and are all very friendly. In facy last March Taters went missing for three and a half weeks and just came home of his own accord. All the boys were neutered but Tina was the only one that could not be picked up and whilst I had pneumonia January 2009 she escaped and came back pregnant the results of which were Bluebell (boy) large, fluffy and black and Simba (girl) small and black and they are nearly a year now and gorgeous. Tina was given a sedative and taken to the vets and spayed now. Biscuit came from a  pet shop, tabby and white and 18 months old. Jasmine and Junior were seen by me on Facebook and when I phoned up to find out about them were told they were feral 8 months old. I drove from London to Birmingham, brought them home, Junior came round really quickly and is now a big old silly who loves to be cuddled while Jasmine took ages and was very nervous and hid but now trusts me to the point where she sleeps on the bed and loves to be picked up and cuddles. She is also a talker. Junior is white with gray splodges and Jasmine is mostly white with tabby splodges. They are now just over a year. Finally. I went into a pet shop in October and noticed the two black and white kitties had been there for weeks. I was told that nobody wanted black and white kitties. They were three months old.  He opened the cage they were in and they were swinging from the bars! I fell in love with them and took them home. That was my darling Cleo and her brother Merlin. So that is my little family and we are one short and missing Cleo badly. I hope that she just turns up in my garden one day but am so worried cos she is only 7 months and small. I only had her for four months.

You just have to try and remain positive, if she could have a choice of where she would like to be, i'm sure at home with you would be number one on the list! 10 other cats?!  :wow:
what are they like? sounds like you really have your hands full!
Try not to despair, the problem with cats is that they are not very loyal  :shify: and as long as they are getting fed they are quite content  :shy:, doesnt mean she doesnt love you  :Luv:. I'm sure you know that though having such a large family of kitties.

Are they all quite little or are some of them adults?

Well it has now been 20 days since my little Cleo went missing. There have been three possible sightings all in different places and I have been to these places all times of the day and night and have never even seen a black and white cat so have no idea if it is her. If the last sighting is her she is quite a long way off from me but not across the field. I have a field at the back of me and I am so scared she has crossed this and ended up lost and disorientated. I have a permanent sick feeling in my stomach, can't stop crying and am finding it difficult to cope with work and daily life. I just feel like lying down and never getting up but I have a 16 year old son and 10 other cats to worry about and look after.

I despair of ever getting my girl back again. I have a large advert going out today in the free press and paid local paper but of course even if I get calls about her, if I never see her when I go to these places how will I ever find her.  I still hope that she will wander back of her own accord but all these supposed sightings and wild goose chases are really frightening me that she is badly lost. I am desparing of ever finding her
If only she would either come home or someone could get her into their house.

I did have a reading by Pea Horsley but everything she said was so wrong that that was a waste of time and money (not that money matters if I get my girlie back)

Can anyone give me any hope pleas. It is killing me to think that the little girl might be so lost and disorientated and wandering around in circles trying to get home

I know exactly how you feel, i do genuinely believe that the flyers and posters help, because it allows people not to forget that she is out there and perhaps just needs a little help to get home. On my second leaflet drop i offered a 'reward for information leading to a safe return' (i had intended this to be a bottle of wine or token amount but did not put this on the flyer) as i found if i just put 'reward' people thought they had to phsically have the cat and not give information that may help. Its unfortunate but none of your neighbours want your cat home as much as you do so its good to remind them.  My local vets actually took my details from the flyer i had given them as they recognised Puddles from the photograph, so she didnt really need the chip.  I'm keeping everything crossed for you.

Jenny - thank you so much. This does give me hope. Unfortunately she is not chipped because she was never supposed to go out until later on!!!I h ave just put an advert in both the free and paid local paper. I did have an older cat who disappeared last March and came back after three and a half weeks. It is just that she is so young.

I dont see why she wouldnt find her way home, it is entirely possible that somebody is feeding her and when they stop she will come home (with bib on and knife and fork in hand) my Puddles was quite far away and only returned when the people who had been feeding her finally took her to a vets with a wound on her leg. I drove round to all the vets and shelters in my area, so even though Puddles was chipped if she hadnt been my details were on the flyer i had sent out so never underestimate not only the power of the microchip but also the flyer!!
Just keep doing what you are doing and try and stay positive, one of my neighbours had a cat that was gone for six months then sauntered up the path like nothing had ever happened.
Have faith in little Cleo!

My little girl is still missing after extensive postering and leafletting. A gardener from a small estate across the road (which is not as near as it sounds due to living at the top end of a cul de sac) has said that he has seen a cat looking like her a couple of times on the estate. Once again me and my husband have been over at separate times throughout the day and night but have never seen her. I am absolutely distraught about this and just don't know what to do next. Is there a chance that she will just turn up one day at my door?

Went and called for her at 1a, last night and also this morning - no sign of her. However, I did see some of the cats from round here over there including one of mine!!! (I think) - if it wasn't him it was identical. The strange thing is that it is actually not far down the field and I could see my house and garden from the flat where the girl was. I am going out to lay a trail later and will keep going back. I really hope that as it is better weather today she will go the the original girl for food.

Srry to hear Cleo is missing ... I would say that if there is a chance of a free meal then she probably will stay in the area. Of course if it is raining she will probably have hunkered down somewhere dry and will be hiding.

Good luck with you search and fingers crossed you get another call from thie girl

That is a fantastic idea trigger. I am going to put some of the vacuum cleaner pick up as a trail and also some litter that her brother has used - unfortunately the litter with her scent has been changed. I was just thinking that if I put some of the vacuum cleaner stuff in a bag and maybe one of my pyjamas or dressing gown and put it in the part of field just outside my house how far the scent would travel. I would say that as the crow flies she is about 200 yards away from me

is there any way you can lay a trail back to your garden from the apartments area? using vaccum cleaner contents, litter tray, anything else you can think of?

Cleo is missing
« Reply #1 on: February 16, 2010, 19:43:37 PM »
Sorry if my post is garbled and wordy it is just that I am shaky and distressed at the moment. Cleo is 7 months old and learnt how to open the cat flap even though it was set to only let my cats in from the garden. Luckily I Had her neutered 2 weeks ago. Once I realised she could get out I watched her go in and out for a week. She never went far and always came when she was called. On Friday 12th Feb she disappeared and never came back. I live ina  cul de sac which backs onto a very brambly field and there are houses backing on to one side of the field. Some are quite far to walk and are separated by the field but not far for a cat. I felt that Cleo had gotten lost and disorientated. Yesterday I knocked on all the doors in the cul de sac and put posters up and today ventured further afield, still where houses backed the field and put a leaflet through every door. I even targetted the 2 blocks of flats that back the field. This evening a girl phoned to say that she had just come  home from work and seen the poster and Cleo was outside her window crying last night from around 8-10.30. Eventually the girl went downstairs and let Cleo into the communal hall and fed her milk. She had to put Cleo outside because her landlord will not allow cats into the flats. I straight away went round there. They said that if she goes back there tonight they will call me. It is pouring with rain here and I called and called but she didn't appear. Now I am on my nerves in case she moves further away. Cleo is definitely lost now because although it is not far from our house it is quite a way from the field. I am going back there tomorrow if I don't hear from the girl.

The two things I want to ask are does anyone think that if she was fed milk there last night there is a good chance she will go back tonight and also what are the chances of her finding her way home (would instinct kick in eventually?). One of my ex-ferals did go missing for three and a half weeks last year and just turned up back in the garden. I am so worried cos she is only a baby.

Any good advice would be much appreciated.

many thanks
